“1st visit to Northumberland”

This was an ideal little cottage that enabled us to relax and enjoy our stay in Wark. Everything that you needed was available in the property and the large walk in shower at the end of a hard day's walking/cycling was ideal. The only draw back from our perspective was the lack of any outside space to relax and enjoy the decent weather that we had. Nonetheless, the local river was not too far away and there was ample seating to enable you to chill at the end of the day.

Hexham House is a great little cottage in Wark. It has everything you could want. Quality fixtures and fittings, an easy to use woodburner and a host of lovely little extras that delight you. Nice village with three good pubs. Lovely walks from the door. One of the best we have stayed in. Smashing!!!!

“Ideal property for two”
Reviewed June 25, 2016 for a stay in June 2016

We originally booked this cottage for a long weekend and are so glad we extended it to a week.

A small stone cottage that has been extensively refurbished retaining the original features with some exposed stone walls and beams, while incorporating modern facilities. A well equipped kitchen with slightly retro kitchen units give it a traditional feel. Electric heaters in all of the rooms or a log burner if you prefer. Snug but spacious accommodation for two.

Located in the middle of a small but very friendly village, with a butchers and village shop opposite and two good pubs/restaurants nearby. An ideal location for visiting Hadrians Wall and the tyne Valley to the south or the Borders to the north with good local walking. If the weather is bad then a snug cottage to come back to.

“Excellent!!!”
Reviewed April 6, 2016 for a stay in March 2016

We had a wonderful stay in Wark. The Cottage was very warm and cozy with the addition of a log burning stove. The locals were friendly along with the neighbors. There's a fantastic butchers across the street from the cottage with great selection of local meats and eggs.

I highly recommend going to eat at the Black Bull, they were so friendly and provided excellent service. Anyone who visits Wark should visit Falconry Days up the road a ways. It was excellent. All good, we will go again when we have a chance.

Thank you

“Our 4 day bond”
Reviewed October 14, 2015 for a stay in October 2015

Hexham House Cottage is a fabulous stone built end of terrace in the small village of Wark on the edge of the Northumbrian Moors (National Park).
I journeyed and stayed for 3 nights with my 18 yr old son as he was entered into a nearby National Junior Golf event and clearly I was there as parental support. We found it by accident after all hotels and guest houses were booked up during the nearby Rugby World cup games at Newcastle, October 2015.
The cottage had everything we wanted from a self catering point of view, a well furnished and utensil stocked kitchen, to a cosy double bed and a lounge sofa bed, I pulled rank with the bed, sorry son. The lounge, in fact all the cottage was tastefully decorated and had electric heating with the back up of a glass fronted log fire, it wasnt quite cold enough for us to stoke the fire. A large TV with Apple remote if required was on hand.
We met both neighbours who treated us like special guests and we were advised and dreamt of trying out the local and unique 'Stottie' as our potential breakfast in the local Cafe/butchers, made with the infamous Northumbrian sausage, made in this village of Wark, sadly we never found time to try these as early morning golf prevailed.
All in all it will be remembered as a special time and I shall visit again with my wife in the not too distant future. Mike and Jacqui the landlords were fantastic and they couldn't do enough prior or during our stay. I would really recommend this cottage as a 'Jewel in the Crown' of local places to stay.

“Very comfy stay in pretty cottage”
Reviewed September 18, 2015 for a stay in September 2015

We stayed for 3 nights and had a lovely time. The river at Wark is beautiful in the sunshine, and there are walks all around. The cottage is well equipped and doesn't take long to become toasty once you fire up the wood-burner. A great little haven in Northumberland.
