Visited with my family after a long walk around Eyebrook reservoir. The menu was simple but something for everyone. Highlight of the meal was the fantastic roast potatoes -crispy and hot. The beef was excellent and everyone finished with clean plates. A country pub with a relaxed atmosphere.

We visited for a family Christmas lunch. My parents are regulars here and I can see why. It's a fine and busy pub with a good reputation, an interesting menu and good service from the waiting staff. We all ordered from the Christmas menu. Those who had the turkey were complimentary, the pheasant dish was nice but a bit too small to be a main course. My big problem was the roast beef. Something has to be very wrong in a quality gastropub for a chef to allow that dish to leave the kitchen. The beef was so tough and chewy, it was virtually inedible. Everything else about the meal was great, so maybe we were just unlucky that day. But really, if they are prepared to send food out like that, they will lose customers very quickly. Just a final comment: we did not complain about this at the time, due to the nature of the occasion, so my apologies to other reviewers if you encounter the same problem.

Visited for a pre Christmas lunch. Shocked that had to pay £12.95 for fish and Chips. Chips must have sat on hot plate as dry not fresh. Fish batter greasy. Had to pay £2 for mushy peas which looked like they had come out of a pond and dried up. Have had so much better at other local pubs and not as expensive. Cannot fathom how they could possibly be in the Michelin guide 2013. Had to ask for accompaniments to the pheasant as they 'forgot' to serve it. The menu described game chips to be served with the pheasant - they were crisps ? Perhaps that is whatever game chips are ? Very odd to serve crisps with pheasant . Will not be visiting this place again and would not recommend it. I like to have good quality food, good service and fair price - this place does not meet any of these. Very disappointed as had looked forward to a nice pub lunch to start the Christmas festivities off.

We dined here recently for a Christmas meal. We have used this pub / restaurant for about 30 years, off and on, probably averaging a visit every 12 to 18 months. Over the years the quality has generally been very good, and the prices fair for the quality. We lunched here not too long ago, and had baguettes, etc. and that was fine. However, the Christmas meal wasn't as good as we had imagined it would be. As a set meal, the price (around £19) was higher than most pubs, but the quality and quantity fell short. The main courses were quite small and the pheasant didn't seem to be cooked very well. The vegetable portions were tiny. It's not often we have a 4-course meal and I go home hungry, but I did on this occasion. We'll probably still go here, but it seems to have lost its edge.

Monday to Thursday 1/2 price menu.Quality of food made for really good value.Nice choices on the menu also.Warm friendly atmosphere and good service.Couldn't want for more.Booked up to go with friends then the wife noticed some bad reviews on google.I couldn't believe them as we have an annual business meal which is good,so where these reviews came from I can't guess.

We spent the weekend cycling round Rutland Water and sightseeing around Uppingham, Oakham, etc. using the Old White Hart as a base. The welcome we received was genuinely friendly in a natural, unforced and relaxed way - we were made to feel like guests rather than customers. Accommodation is in a row of cottages alongside the pub divided into mini apartments - we had two rooms and a bathroom - plenty of space for the two of us, tastefully decorated and clean. The village is visually charming and so peaceful/relaxing - for a 'townie' like myself the silence and lack of light pollution at night was quite amazing. The pub itself was a hive of activity - very popular. Other posts make reference to expensive food which on the face of it may seem to be so, however, there appear to be regular offers (half price when we were staying) and food quality and service was superb (nice real ale, too, for those who are interested). Breakfast was particularly good: everything was locally sourced and fresh - even the bread for toast was fresh from a local bakery. For us, great value and a lovely place to relax.

Ate there for the first time last night, three steaks none of which were cooked to liking. 16oz it was most definitely not, tender meat and could not fault it. But £24 for steak chips tomato and mushroom was very expensive. £2.00 for salad leaves also seemed pricy for nothing special. Nice door just far too expensive.
