“Very nice experience”

Stayed for 2 nights with my wife (sunday/Monday). Lovely historic building with efficient service and excellent food.
It would be easy for such a large and historic building to show signs of negelct but it was lovely to see well tended gardens and all rooms and communial areas very clean and in good repair.
Normaly we would eat once in the restaurant and then eat either a bar snack or somewhere else, however the food was so good we went back the second night.
Only slight issue was that the room was a bit warm. (Not hot enough for us to complain though)

Would not hesitate to recommend!

Room Tip: We had one overlooking the gardens, was a lovely view to wake up to.

Just returned from the wet and windy weekend. We stayed on the golf package option - D B&B plus two rounds of golf - and extended using Marriott points. The setting is superb and the grounds were very well maintained. The staff were very welcoming - apologised for no upgrades being available to us as Marriott members but offered us a move for our last night - perhaps we should have taken it! The fine dining restaurant was superb with tempting choices on all 3 courses but the serving staff were perhaps a little stretched so not very attentive - there were Golf Club dinner events on as well - but the Maitre'd was apologetic and personally facilitated the coffee arrival at the end of the meal! Wine very pricey though. Breakfast was superb - buffet style with a very efficient and friendly egg, waffle & omelette chef - coffee service was sluggish though.
The main area of disappointment was the room - very tired furnishings - the coffee table looked as though it had come from the local pub! The bath was clean but chipped, repairs had been done by bodgit and son! - and the basin although clean was very marked. Housekeeping responded quickly when a new kettle was required (lid kept popping off so it didn't switch off) The saving grace was the view over the beautiful gardens of a morning.
Golf shop staff were very helpful and accommodated changing tee times without fuss on a couple of occasions. The golf course is well maintained. The spa staff were very helpful and the massage was super. I agree the pool is small but as it was half term we had expected it to be busy - steam room and jacuzzi working well!
It was a good break but fell short of usual Marriott accommodation standards

Room Tip: If you have the opportunity ask to see the room first - you might be able to change to one less &quo...

I can't really recommend this place, lovely as it looks. Our room was dated, in a wing, a long way from all the facilities, and I got the feeling that Marriott has priced everything as aggressively as possible. Nothing was really at a standard you'd expect in a place like this. If you're a golfer, it may be worth a visit - otherwise it's a bit of a let-down.

shocking!!!! the service is appalling, the food bland and tasteless, offer a vegetarian range but had run out of all vegetarian products, the pool is the size of a childs paddling pool, with 2 seats available to relax on at the side, the drinks are overpriced £1.95 for a 150ml OJ, paid for a 30 minute massager and got a whole 20 minutes, but to top all of this off my wonderful relaxing day at the spa was ruined by CHILDREN, they have full access to the pool and surrounding area's running riot in reception, screaming and shouting in the eating areas, kicking and screaming, splashing and generally being loud...... not a spa at all, the beauty rooms are separate thank god, not sure I could have coped with screaming kids while I was getting my massage as well, no robes, slippers or towels provide, lockers that don't lock

Room Tip: book a different hotel and spa

I stayed here for one night in late October. It was a fantastic stay. The room was lovely and spacious with a great bathroom. It was very well kept with a small sitting area and plenty of hanging space if needed. The facilities were excellent. Especially the gym and swim with a sauna and Jacuzzi. We dined in the casual restaurant as we were quite late and the food was just as expected. Good quality but perhaps not as fancy as the Priory restaurant. And to top it off the grounds looked amazing. I am looking forward to return for some golf!

I have visited this hotel on several occaisions to run workshops for client organisations. ALWAYS had great service and attantive and flexible staff.
Was there again last week and the service levels were high and the food was really good.

Excellent ambience in the informal dining at near the leisure club and fine formal dining too in the restaurant

overall- great pleace to do business
of course the only downside it the Marriott internet charges- these continue to be indecent and well beyond reasonable

Room Tip: Be aware nearly all the rooms are a real hike from reception - be prepared. but all rooms that I ahv...
