Situated in the midst of the Peaks yet minutes away from the city centre of Derby, this wonderful hotel offers a very restful stay within easy access to some great hill walks! The gym is well worth a visit-spotless and never too busy, it broke up our stay nicely! The grounds, sitting alongside the golf courses, are wonderfully kept, and even in the recent snow maintained their form. No comment on the bar/restaurant as we always ate out, however, we would recommend the local Derby Brewery pub-The Queens Head-for a fine selection of ales, and home cooked food; meats sourced from the butcher next door too, which was well received. The only niggle was the service of the reception staff who didn't seem to know how to use their computers (I had to fix their monitor twice!!) although they were very polite and continually smiled they overcharged me by £190, which has taken an age to be returned! Overall a relaxing spot with easy access to Thorpe Cloud for a bracing walk. We'll be back!

My husband & I choose to use our Tesco vouchers to purchase weekend breaks & Marriott Hotels are always our first choice.Breadsall was yet another lovely weekend. The hotel itself was a wonderful period building, clean & well maintained.Reception staff welcoming & friendly. The room was as we've come to expect from Marriott.Functional, comfortable & clean. As we are using Tesco vouchers we expect to be housed in the extensions but don't mind at all.
Breakfast was plentiful with variety.
The Tempo bar was pleasant to sit & have a drink in,although we felt the drinks were a bit on the expensive side.
Would certainly recommend to anyone visiting Derbyshire,as the hotel is not far from many tourist destinations.
Looking forward to the Cardiff Marriott later in the year! : ))

Two friends and I had a golf weekend in early April. The hotel was good - rooms comfortable, food surprisingly good, staff very helpful. But the golf courses still had some winter restrictions in force: a few mats (which I can live with), 5 winter greens on the Priory course, which were very bumpy and not in good condition. On the Moorland course, we weren't allowed to hit the ball from the fairways at all and had to drop into the first cut of rough.

I understand that the weather has been poor and Spring is very late in arriving, and I'm sure the members are understanding, but when you've looked forward to a break all through the winter it is very frustrating and disappointing. The staff in the clubhouse weren't at all apologetic either. Couldn't they have phoned us to warn us, or offered some small compensation as an apology?

Stayed here two nights on a B & B basis.

First impressions totally favourable: beautiful historic old house; very extensive, immaculately-manicured grounds etc.

However, for anyone who has mobility problems, the place can be a bit of a nightmare: as other reviewers have observed, most of the actual hotel bedrooms are located in add-on blocks both a fair hike away from the main building and, if one attempts to do the hike under cover, up and down very many flights of stairs.

Disabled-friendly? - absolutely not! - suppose if most of the clientele are avid golfers, then there's no great need to be.....

And, whilst the bedroooms themselves are, overall, pleasant enough, in typical, although a tad tired, Marriott style, the accommodation blocks themselves are about as soul-less dated and depressingly-utlitarian as are most university Halls of Residence or even the typical hotel architecture of the former East-German DDR. Bedrooms are replete with slimline electric panel heaters - so slimline that ours had no visible means of control other than one of the occupants lying flat on the floor in order to see and work the almost invisible and inaccessible controls.

Our two-night stay, had we required wifi connection throughout, have relieved us of £30 - IMO, £15 per day merely for the provision of wifi is both extortionate and unjustified, especially for any hotel chain purporting to be upmarket and business-traveller-friendly.

At least the breakfasts, if one survives the route-march to get to the Priory Restaurant, were absolutely fine and more befitting of Marriott standards, (apart from the truly-horrible coffee and the absence of any tomato juice on offer). Staff encountered, especially in breakfast room, were very pleasant polite and attentive.

Were I a fit and able golfer or swimmer, then this place might be a pleasant attraction, but it generally wasn't for me, I'm afraid.

Room Tip: In main house, if possible, especially if aesthetic or mobility sensitivities apply.

I have stayed here several times on business and with friends. It’s a lovely hotel in a great location with lots of facilities at the country club.

It’s always a better stay though when you get one of the rooms in the old house rather than the new annex at the back, so ask / check.

The food is good, and I really like the local english breakfast.

A typicam Marriott set partly within an old Priory. Most of the accomodation is in newer blocks built on the back of the original old building.
It's quite a walk from Reception to the far end of the newer block (and back again for breakfast!).
Nice, comfortable room. Typical Marriott fare - although not the matress which wasn't up to the usual Marriott standard.
Room was rather cold and the electric heater struggled to warm it up. The bathroom had no heating at all - not even a heated towel rail.
Room service was prompt and tasty.
Breakfast (after the previously mentioned short walk) was very good with a wide choice and a chef on-hand to make fresh omlettes etc.
I dint get a chance to use the fine-looking spa.
Overall a good hotel to stay in if you're in the Derby area.
Oh, and there appeared to be a Golf Course surrounding the property.
