“Just fantastic!”
Reviewed September 20, 2009

Just returned from three nights in what must be the gold standard for B&B. Fabulous location, fabulous accommodation, fabulous food, fabulous hosts. Caroline and Kevin made us feel special. Too many special extra touches to list. Orkney is a long way to go but the island, the pace of life, the culture and this accommodation make it a must-go experience.

A wonderful place to stay in the Orkneys. It is situated half way between Stromness and Kirkwall and has views overlooking Scapa Flow. Caroline and Kevin were very accomodating hosts and special touches like home-made cake and strawberries being left in our room for afternoon tea were greatly appreciated. Food was simply excellent and always beautifully presented.

We expected a lot - and we got it - and a bit more.
Everything was just fine; the room, the scenery, the food and and the warm friendliness.
A stay you won't forget. Try the Menu. We were sorry to leave after five days.

From the beginning to the end of our holiday I was extremely impressed with the level of hospitality, service and attention to detail that both Caroline and Kevin have and maintain throughout the time that we spent with them. The house itself and the garden are of one of the highest standards providing spectacular views of Hoy, the sea and if you are lucky seals which are just in front of the House.

This truly hidden gem does not just stop there but the two evening meals that Caroline cooked for us both from scratch, were superb and is something that I suggest all of the visitors to go for. (Especially her selections of homemade puddings). Caroline is also extremely flexible in what times we would like to sit down for breakfast (which was very useful when travelling to various places). Kevin also helped us out in planning our days seeing the sights and without him we would have missed some truly wonderful places.

I do suggest however just two points.

The first is to sort out a car to hire or bring your own as it is essential in order to get enough sights seen. But there are some wonderful walks which am sure if asked Kevin and Caroline would advise on what is another hidden gem on this wonderful island.

Secondly, to get the full flavour of Orkney I’d advise a longer stay at the Quoy is well worth while, and will allow you to explore the smaller islands and know that you have a luxurious and cosy room to stay in without rushing things.

We spent two sunny days there and our stayng couldn't be more satisfying: Caroline and Kevin welcomed us in their homemade house, with homede cakes and bread, spring water and rhubarb from their garden, all organic orkney's food and soap. The dinner was refined and set in a very romantic place: candlelight, wineglasses, a little music and a tiny cosy room all for us.
The breakfast was different every morning, just the way we wanted.

All the evenings we maneged to see seals just in front of the house!

To be honest the bathroom is really too tiny if you have long hair, but who cares when all is so well worthing...

Initially set out to camp, a last minute change of heart lead me to book this b and b. Only new in the game this place was certainly a home away from home. Clean, cosy and just delightful!

This was our first visit to Orkney and we will definitely be back. From our arrival to departure the hospitality and friendliness were second to none and Caroline was a mine of information regarding places to visit etc. The food was superb, (Caroline is an excellent cook), the accommodation very comfortable and the location is just wonderful and even the weather was kind to us. We will be back and hopefully will have better luck with the fishing next time!
