This location provided me with lovely photos. The beautiful cemetery with the ancient ruins were beautiful at sunset. One of many unexpected treats on the Orkneys!

The Bu only has a few grass banks showing the foundations but isi adjacent to the Viking Saga centre and the unique round Kirk which gives it an extra star. Its interesting to see the actual sites mentioned in the saga.

Earl's Bu is in the middle of what passes for a neighborhood on the mainland. There is not much to the ruin itself, which is very unusual because it is of a round church, but the hike along the ocean is breathtaking. I didn't see any of the much talked about seals, dolphins, porpoises or whales cavorting in the ocean, but the fields of wild flowers and heather that bordered the sea were just heavenly, and it was good to get out for a longer walk than what is possible at some of the island's other ruins. Plus the path rewards you along the way with raspberry bushes bursting with the most flavorful raspberries I have ever tasted.

Interesting, but all ratings are by comparison and Orkney is full of truly amazing places.

It was worth visiting, but not worth a special trip
