“Lovely holiday”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 16, 2008

We stayed for one week at Zanzoo Retreat and had a wonderful holiday there. Breakfast has been served at the veranda with a selection of fresh fruits quite often from Rosie's garden. Our grandparents enjoyed the swimmingpool in the mornig and our doughter Marina loved to play tennis (all free of charge). Zanzoo is lokated near the Crystal Cascades and we made lovely one day trips to the Table Lands, Port Douglas and Crokodile Farm, however, the snorkeling tour to the Franklin isleands has been the highlight. Thank you Rosie and kind regards from the big German family Manfred, Christa, Marina with Opa and Oma

  • Liked — That it was not lokated near the touristic centres

We couldn't believe how much we enjoyed our time at Zanzoo! A little piece of heaven tucked away in the valley, the home is surrounded by beautiful tropical gardens including solar heated pool & tennis courts. We loved the walks along the little creek and our host was great, bit of a character, cooks a fabulous breaky and great knowledge on the local area. Would highly recommend this property it also has free internet access and free laundry facilities. We will be back for sure!

  • Liked — Quality accomodation & very relaxed surroundings, lovely pool, tennis court and not far from everything
  • Disliked — It was all good!

We had a fantastic stay at Zanzoo. Great setting, so nice and quiet yet only 20 or so minutes from Cairns. It was really clean and friendly. We had a car (as suggested) and got there with no fuss at all. We needed a nice quiet and relaxed break and that's what we got. We can't recommend highly enough.

We have recently returned from a brief holiday in Cairns and chose to stay at the Zanzoo Retreat and felt we had to post a review to advise others of this perfect gem nestled in the rainforest. The location is truly superb set in the valley with a quite broad stream flowing past and the grounds of the retreat are large with a beautiful pool and tennis court also, so lots to do if you are so inclined.
Another aspect of Zanzoo that we liked was that the guests stay in a large well appointed homestead whilst the owners ( and providers of delicious breakfasts) live in a cottage only a small distance away. The homestead had a very large kitchen with everything provided so we were able to cook our own meals - great if you have had a successful fishing adventure as we did!
The hosts were informative, friendly and amusing and we will most definitely be staying with them again!

Zanzoo is a perfect retreat for some rest and relaxation in a tropical paradise!
The premises is sparkling clean with wonderful ammenities, the rooms are airy with plenty of space, the bed was comfortable and the bathrooms spotless.
We stayed for 5 nights and enjoyed the quiet surroundings.
Breakfast was served on the balcony each morning and sitting there watching the world from high above the ground was a great way to start the day.
We cooked in the kitchen and the ammenities were great. My only two regrets is that I didn't bring my swimmers and we couldn't stay another week.

Thanks to Josie for making it a wonderful event !!

Had driven past this property several times and always fascinated us, at last we found an opportunity to stay there. What a fantastic find is this perfectly renovated, genuine Queenslander - mod cons abound without any compromise to the integrity of design of an original tropical Queensland home.

The setting, only 20 mins from Cairns airport and city, is unique for any B&B (or resort) in the area; 14 well tended acres with both tropical fruit trees and natives. Rainforest-edged creek, a haven for wildlife, flows through the property, there's a large perfectly maintained swimming pool as well as a tennis court.

If you can drag yourself away from the peace of Zanzoo, Crystal Cascades is only a short drive - swimming holes fed by clean mountain water set in a dense tropical rainforest, and best of all, no tour buses. Marc, the host at Zanzoo, is only too happy to share his local knowledge and book tours for you for anywhere in area.

Breakfasts on verandah at Zanzoo were always a delight; we had more than one meal at the Red Beret, a local Queenslander pub at Redlynch plus two excellent dinners at nearby Stratford, where there's several outstanding restaurants, so no need to go into Cairns city to eat. If you don't feel like going out, there's a fully equipped modern kitchen at Zanzoo (for guests' use, the owners live in separate cottage on property) as well as outdoor bbq.

All in all, a wonderful week in a tropical paradise, to which we can't wait to return .

As Canadians visiting Australia for the first time we were not at all sure what to expect in the way of hospitality, congeniality, or for that matter any of the other social graces. I would like to report that any trepidations have been put to rest once and for all! A visitor will very quickly come to terms with the fact that there is no such thing as pretension in the Australian's world. What you will get is an honest, open, and perfectly frank assessment and retort to any situation.
After a week in Sydney in January 2008 my wife and I headed to Cairns via "Virgin Blue" airlines. We are not virgin travellers by any means and are pleased to report that we have NEVER, EVER, travelled on a happier airline!
To Zanzoo....
I 'phoned Mark, the owner, direct from Canada and was greeted with what I detected as a very straightforward response to my questions along with what I will call a touch of a "British" sense of humour. Based upon this conversation I made our booking for a week at Zanzoo.
This was quickly confirmed via e-mail from Zanzoo along with quite explicit directions from the airport. (You will need a car!).
Arriving at Zanzoo we were greeted by Mark and given a brief tour of the property and shown to our room. The bedroom was air-conditioned and included an en-suite bathroom and private, screened, verandah with a day bed. The whole apartment was sparkling clean and the bed was very comfortable.
The bathroom was well furnished with small but seemingly everlasting slices of home-made soaps plus shampoo etc. and soft towels.
It took us a couple of days to find our way around the property and to comprehend that you are not so much a paying guest but almost an integral part of the whole. A little bit difficult to describe the interaction but take my word for it. It is wholesome and honest. The last time we felt so much at home was in a croft on the Isle of Skye forty years ago! Things have changed somewhat since then and this is reflected in the offer of a broadband internet computer if needed (or bring your own laptop) and the use of a telephone on the honour system.
I will briefly summarise our assesment as follows:
Reception - Quite brief but courteous.
Accomodation - Excellent. Clean and crisp. Plasma TV. Fantastic main floor kitchen if you wish to "home cook". Comfortable sitting room with TV, games, books etc.
Recreation - Splendid pool with a waterfall and water jets. Covered BBQ/sitting/eating area. Tennis court.

All in all a first class experience.
