My husband and I stayed here with two very young children for 3 nights. We paid a lot for our suite of two rooms and two bathrooms, but it was worth every penny. During the day we had the pool almost to ourselves and the children were made very welcome, enjoying their amuse bouches at meal times considerably (they were aged 2.5 and 18 months)! The hotel provided a brilliant babysitter, and, when I broke a tooth at dinner (no fault of the chef) and fainted, Monica, the receptionist accompanied me in the ambulance and interpretated at the hospital for five hours, always with a smile. We shall definitely return.

Beautiful chateau with fantastic cuisines and a professional and multi-talented staff (e.g. the sommelier was also the concierge.) Our bedroom was not extravagant but the bathroom was huge and well-lit.

Please disregard the rating of this Chateau as I've never visited it.
Why? Because it would be a looong commute to Cahors if a traveller stays at the Chatreau de Curzay; it lies nearer to Poitiers than Cahors. Perhaps the writers were thinking of another Relais & Chateaux property, the Chateau de Mercuès, a few km NW of Cahors. I run the Latitude Cultural Center, a non-profit association in La Toulzanie (details of our week-long courses at www.latitude.org) near Cahors and have enjoyed several meals at the one-star restaurant in the former bishops' palace in Mercuès. However, the BEST (elegant) meals I've had in the Lot were served at Le Gindreau and Pont de l'Ouysse. My local, down-home favorites remain L'Atelier and Le Gourmet Quercynois, both in St Cirq Lapopie, a wonderfully-preserved medieval village that inspired André Breton and many other artists.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
So many wonderful experiences await at the Chateau de Curzay, built in 1710. Take a hot air balloon ride from the park and survey Romanesque Vienne from the sky. Drift in a boat down the Vonne, at the heart of the estate, in search of the secret garden, and have a picnic on the banks of the river, in the shade of 200 year-old cedar trees. Go for a walk through the estate's 120 hectares in search of deer that roam wild. Visit the Futuroscope, a fairytale temple of images. Discover the seductive charm of the Poitevin marsh. Stop off in the town of Poitiers to admire the medieval facades. Back at the chateau, days and nights can be spent in magnificent tranquillity, between romantic strolls, dinner on the terrace, beauty treatments, classical music in the chapel and relaxing at the pool. ... more   less
