We, a family of three stayed for 6 days. The family rooms inthe annexe at the back have a nice and cosy attic where the third bed is located. A nice place which the kids would find attractive. The presence of a staircase inside the already small room is a cause for concern, particularly when you want to relax on a holiday.

However, the furniture and the other equipment definitely need improvement. Particularly the cable TV service was pathetic.Even basic supplies including cutlery were hard to come by.

The continental Breakfast is really good, and would help you to start off a typical day of sight seeing.
The balconies on the family rooms also have a very good view of the alpine peaks.

Beware of sudden deluge of tourists invading the small hotel in tourist buses. they left the next morning, but made it very difficult for us to complete the morning breakfast in time.

A very nice and homely hotel. Good for Families.
The room was set up like a duplex, where kids could use the attic room. Huge beds joined.
Very clean rooms and bathrooms.
A nice small veranda which faced the mountains. From room 662, we couldn't see the ice capped mountains though.
Breakfast was good. Not the American Bfast, but very satisfying.

The location was good and close to the railway station [7mts walk].
This lovely family hotel, along with very helpful and courteous staff, made our stay in Interlaken a good one to remember!

The Chalet Swiss Hotel is in the pretty Unterseen area of Interlaken - 5 minutes walk from the West train station with a stunning view of the Alps in the distance. It is a traditional Swiss chalet - chocolate box pretty with window boxes and a lovely garden.

There are 2 buildings - the traditional chalet and an annexe behind. We stayed in a superior room in the annexe - it was split level - a galleried area upstairs with an extremely comfortable bed, downstairs was a single bed, settee and 2 chairs and television and a balcony. The rooms are fairly basic but spotlessly clean, comfortable and cheery. The hotel has a small, friendly bar area and a toy room in the basement, full of toys - our son's favourite place.

Staff are friendly, helpful and efficient. Meals are served in their small dining room. Breakfast is continental style, dinners are 3 courses - the food is wholesome and tasty.

Interlaken itself is a beautiful place - set between 2 lakes - Thun and Brienz with the mountains in the distance. Everywhere you look is a picture postcard view. We especially enjoyed the following activities in Interlaken:
- horse and carriage ride - lasts half an hour, costs about £25 and is a relaxing, fun way to see the town. Our driver was extremely friendly and pleasant and pointed out interesting things to us.
- Harder Kulm and Heimweh Fluh - 2 view points at either side of Interlaken. You take a funicular up to each one, and both have spectacular views from the top. From Heimweh Fluh you can ride by tobaggan to the bottom - this is a lot of fun.

Other recommended things to do include steamer trips on both the lakes. The scenery on both is amazing, there are lots of beautiful little places to stop along the way - particularly recommend Spiez on Lake Thun - it has a castle and wonderful views.

Lauterbrunnen Valley - 20 minutes by train from Interlaken - is worth a visit. It is hard to overstate how stunning this valley is- sheer cliffs each side and a total of 72 waterfalls crashing down. Take the funicular to Murren - again fabulous views. Murren is a tiny, traffic free village with the most unbelievable views of the Monch, Jungfrau and Eiger.

Schynige Platte Alpine Gardens are beautiful - you take a cog railway for nearly an hour to reach them - the gardens are hilly with lots of steps, but beautiful and you can see edelweiss growing there.

Interlaken is well connected - buses, trains and steamers offer a choice of transport options - everything runs bang on time and is so efficient. Some trains even have family carriages with slides and toys for children.

Tune in to the local television channel at your hotel in Interlaken - it gives useful and detailed information (in english as well as german) and cameras at the top of the mountains let you see what the current weather conditions are before you decide to set off.

I would highly recommend the Chalet Swiss hotel and Interlaken as a base to tour this area. We travelled with Kuoni and used the fly rail system, where we checked our luggage in at the airport in England and Kuoni transferred it directly to the hotel - we took the train from Zurich to Interlaken without any baggage. It was wonderful. The same thing in reverse for our departure - totally hassle free and as ever extremely efficient.

All in all a wonderful holiday - would recommend it to anyone.

The Chalet Swiss Hotel is situated about 800 metres from the centre of Interlaken west and the train station. A number of the rooms have glorious views of the Alps (for no extra charge) and the one we stayed in looked straight out over the snow covered peaks - it was magical. Our first impressions were extremely good with a very friendly welcome and easy check-in. This hotel was clean and all the staff we dealt with were extremely friendly and helpful. The chalet is fairly old and as a result the rooms are quite small, though still room for a small table as well as the bed (our double bed was two singles pushed together). There is no kettle in the room. The floor has a slight slope to it which actually caused a little light-headedness when we first checked-in, but that passed within a few hours. Bathroom was quite cramped, but clean and serviceable. We had two English TV stations- CNN and Prime. The in-house restaurant is excellent value for money at 26 Swiss francs for a four-course meal - soup, salad, choice of mains (I had a fondue and my husband chicken) and desserts with coffee, and the menu changed each night. There is also a lovely hotel bar and sitting room to enjoy a chat with staff and travellers alike (you are able to pick up hot drinks and take them to your room), internet acess (though we found cheaper a few minutes walk away in a pub) and a complimentary spa and sauna, though our days were so full we didn't get time to enjoy them. Overall, this hotel had a very warm and inviting atmosphere and was very good value for money at the discounted rate we got it for (81 euro per night).
