Set high in the hills, this must have been some site in medieval France overlooking an immense terrain. Narrow windy road leads to a well laid out path of around 200 meters, not accessible for wheelchairs and once in side plenty of steps / stairs leading to magnificent views. Only down side for us was the fact it was raining, but we got to buy some ridiculous ponchos and nearly took off when the wind picked up. €30 for a family ticket

Queribus is a beautiful Chateau, easily accessible on foot from Cucugnan. Wonderful views on both the valleys, Cucugnan, Maury and the Chateau of Peyrepertuse.

Like many Cathar castles, this one will make you dizzy. It is accessible by a short, well-laid-out slope that is quite reasonable (a ten-minute walk) followed by a climb up the castle stairs. You must cross three enclosures before arriving to the castle itself. The climb can be broken by stops on terraces to admire the landscape and ... catch your breath. The visit will be much more pleasant if you wear comfortable shoes!
In the castle itself, we discover several buildings (kitchen, powder keg, tower, dwelling), but the most interesting is undoubtedly the dungeon with its large quadrangular room on two levels. Simply superb ... and surprising!
By visiting the castle, you also visit a very complete military architecture including gunboats, stunners, machicoulis.
From the different terraces, the panorama is breathtaking (and disheveling!). We remember very well the strong wind that swept into the last staircase near the high gate on our first visit 27 years ago - grabbing the rope was not optional to avoid being knocked down! But in this recent visit, the sun was at the rendezvous and was not accompanied by strong winds. But ... the rope was not a luxury to make the stairs easier to climb!
The visit can be accompanied by an audio-guide that retraces the history of the castle and explains the different buildings as seen by a fictional character in charge of making an inventory the castle long ago. Original but too succinct for our taste. Two audio guides are available for the price of one (4 €).
I wish you a lot of pleasure in your discovery of the site!

Great castle to climb and see the stunning views.
One of many Cathar Castles you must see in the area. DO some wine tasting when you get down to the village!
