“So windy and audacious”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 27, 2014

The view is spectacular out there, although the road up needs proper shoes (:) don't come in high heels). The Cathar castles are always on the top of the mountains, rising high. There's not much left on the inside but the view is great.

“Majestic Castle”

Lovely castle but very windy! Remember to dress warmly- even though it is summer! The road to the castle can be small and windy.

“Excellent but terrifying!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 14, 2014 via mobile

Brilliant castle, brilliant walk up to it and the views are out of this world. It is very very exposed and windy and as I'm scared of heights I was quite scared! But it was still very much worth it! There is lots of parking, the entry fee gets you a guide to the site and there was a little cabin at the bottom which sold drinks and ice creams and souvenirs. Definitely a must do.

“Take a bow those who built this...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 13, 2014 via mobile

Really fantastic day out walking up to and around here. The way this fortress is carefully integrated onto the cliff is amazing. The creativity and care is superb, and considering the work conditions up there it is a magical feat!! Well worth going to see

“Fantastic castle and views - beware the wind!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 12, 2014

An amazing piece of history as well as engineering. If you are in the area a must see.
As with other castles the limestone stairs can be very slippery as well as uneven, so wear good rubber soled shoes with grip. There is a gentle hike up a well kept path.

Heed any warnings on windy days. They still permit entry when there are close to gale force winds, as there were with us, and as the winds are channeled through the first flight of stairs into the castle entry they can be very forceful, close to 100 kph. There is a rope to hold onto to help you up, good idea to use it as huge gusts can come out suddenly. I imagine it would be very dangerous for small children in these conditions!

The castle has some very well preserved sections and the climb to the top is worth it for amazing views all the way to the sea. Any history buffs will thoroughly enjoy the visit.

No toilet or food facilities once away from ticket booth. Plenty of parking. Definitely not stroller, wheel chair or disabled, injured friendly.
