“Spectacular Views in every direction”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 3, 2012

During the late winter months is probably the ideal time to visit here , as the wind has dropped off and the temperature is perfect for the climb up from the car park , there is not too many people around also so you can explore a leisure , a gradual climb not overly difficult, Once in the Chateau the views are spectacular , an audio guide is recommended ,
a entrance fee is charged which is reduced if you have the Cathar sites Passport , down in the valley is the village of cucugnan, also worth a visit for some wine tastings from the Corbieres region.

“Cathar stronghold”

Very much a ruin, but nonetheless fascinating. Only a short climb from the car park, and some lovely views.

“Tales of Cathars and Templars”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 28, 2012

Queribus is on the Cathar trail, strictly speaking is is not a Cathar castle as what you see was mostly constructed latr, but it does have a genuine history steeped in the mysteries and tales of the 14th century, the time of the Cathar heresy - a stunning place, fantastic views and you can get close by car, but the last bit of the walk is up a steep path.

“A glimpse back into centuries of history”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 30, 2011

When driving towards Cucugnan with the intention of visiting Chateau de Queribus, I first glimpsed the fortress high up on the ridge and was intrigued. I was even more fascinated when as we followed the signposts, it became obvious that this was our destination. Looking at the ruined chateau from the car park it appears that the path up is not for the faint hearted, However, this is deceptive, and though very windy in places, and the handrail was welcome, it was not a difficult track.
We hired the audio guide and found this invaluable as the ruins did not give up much to my untrained eye. When considering the life of the garrison stationed here to keep watch on the Spanish, it was amazing to think of the provisioning and arming of the castle during these times, and it also played its part in the history of the Cathars as one of their strongholds in the 13th century.
The views from the top of Queribus are magnificent, over ranges of the Pyrenees, including the nearby Chateau Peyrepertuse and out to the Mediterranean.
Well worth the effort to visit when travelling in the area.
The nearby village of Cucugnan is picturesque and a good place for refreshments after the climb up and back. Only drinks and icecreams are available at the kiosks at Queribus.

“Perfect Ride!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 22, 2011

Pros:
- great castle romance and ambiance;
- perfect landscape, breathtaking views from the top of the chateaux;
- you could only get there by car, so I hope this place never becomes a mass tourism attraction;
- nature, mountain roads, pretty Cucugnan with its medieval windmill - everything were perfect.

Cons:
- August is not ideal month for visiting Pays Cathare - it can be really hot; it was +30 during our climb, but inspiration has beaten it all without delay.
