Just back from a wonderful 3 night stay at the faultless beach hotel! What a perfect hotel for anyone wanting to get away in the most beautiful part of the country.
Must start by reviewing the hotel- modern yet cosy, situated just on the beach, spotless with great character- faultless! We got a sea-view room and were blessed with beautiful weather for October. Perfect, spacious, modern bedrooms, huge flatscreen tv (not that we put it to use!) and seating area to enjoy the breathtaking scenery!
Food was suberb, great selection for breakfast ranging from melon and grapefruit to your full fry up- perfect after a night spent in the bar! For dinner we had fish every night (Scampi was fab!) Tasted like it had just been pulled from the sea! Bar was cosy with a fire lit every night, live music to enjoy while you play a game of pool-couldn't beat it!
Leaving the best to last-the staff! We left the place feeling like one of their own! Without going into too much detail, we had car trouble (to put it lightly). Every member of staff got involved with helping us get back home safely! Never knew the kindness and generousity of people still existed until that day! From manager to night porter everyone went out of their way to make it an amazing holiday under the circumstances! Thank you Charlie, Maraide, Darragh and Eddie and all your staff for your help. Will be back indefinatley in the near future.

My husband an i just stayed for two nights in the lovely Beach Hotel. The hotel is immaculate and of a very high standard. This is a family run hotel and the whole family take great pride in everything they do. We ate in the bar on our first night and it was great. The second night we ate in the restaurant where they were serving a set menu and it was excellent. When we asked for a cheeseboard instead of the set menu dessert it was no bother at all, we got a beautifully presented cheeseboard. A big thank you to Charlie and all of the family and staff for making us feel so welcome. Can't wait to go back.

After a busy week in school heading for Downings on a Friday evening we were full of expectation. We were not disappointed -we were greeted like true friends at reception and this lovely atmosphere continued all weekend. We were in downings for a family birthday party so we all ate in the bar on friday nite which was lovely and included a free bottle of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc as part of our Living Social deal. Throughout the weekend service was first class, food was gorgeous and our superior room out of this world- I even got a beautiful handmade bracelet and necklace from the jewellery cabinet after some hinting to my husband and son! All in all a weekend to savour and remember. We will definitely be back....soon

We arrived on the very wet and windy Friday 14th of September and greeted with a warm and very welcoming smile. The receptionist apparently knew who we were before we introduced ourselves for our booking, (Thats efficiency if ever there was one!). Absolutely no time wasted providing our room number, keys and clear directions. Our room was spacious and airy, clearly well planned out with room to manoeuvre without bumping into furniture or, each other. The water in our bathroom was hot enough to shave almost instantly, which was great as i needed to upon arrival. Looking out the room window, there was a beautiful view over the bay. We had the choice of dining in the evening in the Restaurant or the Bar. We chose the bar as my Wife wanted to watch the Soccer game on TV as she dined. (She is the Soccer Hooligan in our house!). The menu in the bar (which is quite a varied one) is the same one that they use for the Restaurant, Thats how it should be in my opinion, if i wanted a Steak or something special, why should i have to go into the restaurant to choose it and eat there? The blue flag beach is just at the rear of the hotel and within less than 5 minutes walk from the front door. While the 2 bars may get quite excited by guests, public and music, the upstairs room area is quite tranquil and quiet. The Breakfast is served in the Restaurant, which is a spacious naturally lit area covering a lot of the ground floor area, and there was more than ample room between each table. There is a wide varied choice to suit all tastes, we were informed that if we required something not mentioned on the menu they can check if it may be got for us. The coffee was fresh, plentiful and kept coming, that, to me is what breakfast is all about! The Staff at the Beach Hotel are ever so friendly and helpful. They went out of their way to provide us with customer service when needed On cleanliness and Hygiene, i absolutely could not find a fault! The whole building and grounds are spotless! I would give this Hotel an absolute 100% on visitor value, and genuinely look forward to returning again to what an Irish Hotel should be like. This is the best hotel i have booked into during my 2012 travels. My congratulations to the Staff and Owners of the Beach Hotel for supplying to the public what they really want!

Stayed in september with my girlfriend. First time in downings, nice wee town.
Hotel was spotless and staff very friendly. Rooms were nice and breakfast was good.
Ate in the pub one night and food was ok. showed all the sports in the pub on big screens which was good.
No bath in our room and a bit of a noisey fan in the bathroom (but just turned it off).
There is no pool/spa/golf/gym etc with this hotel.
Downinings is nice and pretty but there are only a few pubs and if the weather is poor (which it can be) you might not have a lot to do. We drove to dunfanaghy the second night for a better choice of pubs/food and to go surfing (you can go surfing and there is a surf shop in downings but the were at the beach in dunfanaghy!!).

to sum up- fantastic value hotel, spotless and friendly place. decent bar, ok food. But not the 2nd best hotel in donegal (by some distance) .

Room Tip: take the atlantic road to downings- some awesome scenary although driving on the road can be scary...
