“Great trekking in a beautiful area”

The Point Equestrian Centre and Pony Trekking

Whilst on holiday in Clifden, we took our grand-daughter aged 9 out to the Point Centre for pony trekking. Initially she had a one hour session, but subsequently had another two one-hour and one two-hour sessions because she enjoyed it so much. The weather was perfect so we could relax on one of the numerous beaches or have lunch/coffee in the nearby golf club whilst she was on her trek. The scenery was breath-taking. We would recommend the Point because the riding conditions looked ideal (on beaches and dry sandy tracks) and because she was looked after with great personal attention. The pony she had was very calm and well groomed and the staff were very flexible in arranging sessions to suit our needs. Highly recommended.

I do not think I can accurately describe our experience, but I will try.

Summary
Beautiful location riding on the beach in and out of the water
Nice, well cared for horses for all levels of experience
Catered to all riding levels
Friendly pleasant guides

The Details

We scheduled the two hour ride. The weather was beautiful. The horses appeared well cared for. They were well groomed with good weight, healthy coat and good temperment. My partner is over 6'3" and about 220 and a beginner. They even had a horse for him. His horse was about 17h with good substance, and very quiet and well mannered.
They catered to both our riding levels. I rode with one guide for a while and was able to trot, canter and gallop during the ride. The guide did take care to rest the horses appropriately. My partner, the beginner, rode with another guide and walked and trotted. We met up to ride together for a while too.
Both guides were friendly and knowledgable.
The scenery was breathtaking. You ride along the several beaches in and out of the water. You just have to see it to believe the beauty.

The people and horses are the best! It was great riding on the beautiful beaches and through the ocean, better than being in a movie! They suit riders of whatever experience to the proper group and mounts, so beginners can go at their own pace and more experienced riders can do lots of canter work. Sean and Ann are so nice. Beautiful time in all ways! Saddle up!!

Every summer we visit Ballyconneely and ride the horses down to the beach! (Our relatives have a caravan on the beach} Sean & the gang take us out on the Connemara Ponies, we pay for an hour, but it is usually well over! Always a highlight, send someone to take photos/video while you are riding! Great craic!
