“Worth going back again”
Reviewed September 13, 2012 via mobile

Of the handful of restaurants in Pollonia the only one we went to more than once. Honest food served with enthusiasm at prices that while above average for Greece are reasonable compared to other local restaurants.

“Thumbs up for Gialos”
Reviewed September 4, 2012

Very good restaurant in a pretty location by the sea, both seafood and meat absolutely fresh and very well cooked.
Nice mood and the best "fava" I had.

We had dinner again tonight at Gialos, one year since our last visit. When we walked up to the restaurant, the owner, Christos, welcomed us warmly with a bear hug and huge smile. He even remembered what we ate on our last visit. Our waiter was a charming fellow from the north of Greece who was very thoughtful and recommended an excellent wine from his part of Greece, which we greatly enjoyed. We ordered the fried potatoes, beautifully salted and spiced, which we loved and ate at once. Then the Greek salad came, with its local soft cheese, which was sublime.

I ordered the penne with sun dried tomatoes and chicken, my partner ordered the red mullet (which Christos insisted we come into the kitchen to see how fresh they were). The penne was delicious, as I remember it, as was the Greek salad ... the tomatoes were definitely home grown and were the most flavorful tomatoes we've had since last year. My partner's six fried red mullet came whole and, although delicious, were a challenge to de-bone and eat. Still, he loved them. We also ordered the fried purse of feta cheese, red pepper and tomato, which was excellent.

After dinner, I had a combination cafe Americano and Greek coffee, which was a concoction our waiter came up with ... it was delicious. We were unsurprisingly impressed once again with the entire operation and, small wonder, all the other restaurants were devoide of customers as they all queued up for tables at Gialos, which was completely full. The owner is an incredible host, makes each and every patron feel welcome and important and with his winning smile and affable manner, he is one of the most charming fellows in Milos. We highly recommend Gialos as being the place to eat in Pollonia ... the combination of great service, high quality food and excellent prices keep the place full every night!

“Nouveau cuisine at its best”
Reviewed August 31, 2012

A team of professional chefs produce a menu of Greek food in the modern style. Gone are the soggy oil laden dishes which are so popular with tourists intent on gaining weight. Traditional food cooked lightly and garnished with herbs and spices rather than doused in olive oil. Front of the house controlled by one of the owners could pay attention to not giving well known customers and big spenders special treatment. All customers are equal with a good host but not at Gialos. However there is not a dish served that would disappoint. The beef steaks in particular are to be recommended

“Fine cuisine - Good location”
Reviewed August 28, 2012

We sat down at that restaurant because it was the only restaurant filled with people eating at Pollonia, so we thought it would be good. It was. Normal food, not something extraordinary, just ok food for 2 hungry people. First we tried the local specialty dish "Pitarakia" (5.20e) which was not as good as we expected. It was actually better when we tried that delicacy at a bakery in Adamas...Then we had "Kolokithokeftedes" (5,00e) that we did not like at all, followed by a wonderful salad(6,40e) ! Their salads are amazing, and the only thing worth eating if you ask me. The salad we had had fresh fruit in it, and I wish I had that as a main dish ! Then we had Octopus stew (6,60e), that was also very tasty, and Sardines(7,00e) that were not well cooked. The bill was 38,80 and I have to say that we had better dinners for less during our stay at the island.
