Captain Zeppos Boutique Suites

I recently stayed at Captain Zeppos with my husband, brother, and sister-in-law in the green room. It is an adorable typical Greek house, right next to an adorable typical Greek church, set just one block off the waterfront and all the associated restaurants, etc. Although it took us a few minutes to find it, it is very convenient in terms of location. The port is about a 15 minute drive, and the airport about 20. Many of the awesome natural rock formations on the north side of the island (Sarakinko, Papafrags) are just minutes away. Zeppo showed up at our door the first morning unexpectedly with a large basket of homemade bread, jams, jellies, crackers, coffee, etc. The rooms were clean, decorated very nicely, and overall everything was great!

We stayed four nights with Captain Zeppos and had an amazing time! The location is perfect - right next to the beach and tucked away from the main street. The room we stayed in was lovely with a sea view. Captain Zeppos and his wife were great hosts and even took us to the port to catch the ferry on our last day!
Stay here if you ever go to Pollonia

Staying at Captain Zeppos was the highlight of our Greek Island trip this June (June 12-19). Our family of four (2 adults and 8 and 10 year old girls) stayed in the Blue Room and I honestly must say this is the cleanest place I have ever stayed in in my life! I almost felt that they touched up the paint every day when we went out, it was completely spotless. Captain Zeppos has 4 apartments, that house various size groups - I think from 2 to 6 people. This is a cozy, warm family place, yet clean and modern at the same time.

The Blue room was decorated in sparkling white and crisp Greek blue, with really chic yet warm touches (designed by the Zeppos' son who is an interior designer). Every desire was anticipated and provided for. It had a large king bed with a loft with two twin beds above it. A kitchenette with two burners, coffee maker and a small frig. Windows and French doors opened onto the shaded breezy balcony right on the sea! Many nights we slept with the windows and doors open, lulled to sleep by the crashing waves. There is also air conditioning, which was nice and powerful when it was hot out.

Mrs. and Mr. Zeppos were such wonderful hosts. The first morning we awoke to a bountiful basket full of goodies outside our door that we could use during our stay: three kinds of coffee to prepare (Greek, instant and drip), a jar each of jam and local honey, sugar, and a delicious breakfast cake! We stocked up on breakfast supplies (eggs, cereal, etc) at the General Store at the end of the block. And every afternoon we really enjoyed our wine and/or ouzo on the balcony before going out to dinner. Another great service they provide is daily laundry. Each bathroom has a color-coded laundry bag and your clothes magically appear clean later that day or the next morning. Wonderful touch!

Captain Zeppos is located in the heart of Pollonia, a small fishing village at the east end of Milos. Most of the lodging in Pollonia is across the bay from the restaurants, but Captain Zeppos is found in the tiny street running just behind the beachfront tavernas, making it's location very central and easy walking distance to everything. We agonized over which place to stay and I couldn't have been happier with our choice! There is a tiny blue and white church right next to Captain Zeppos, that just completes the idyllic scenery.

We rented a tiny car from Axios Car Rental for a very reasonable rate for the week. He office is just steps from Captain Zeppos. Patrick met us at the port and was so helpful in packing our overflow luggage into his car, then he led us to Captain Zeppos' apartments. When we returned to the port, we simply drove ourselves, and left the cars at the port. Patrick was busy that day so Captain Zeppos put our extra luggage in his car and followed us so we wouldn't have to make two trips.

Every day we went to a new beach, each one more amazing than the next. The winds were from the North, so most of our time was spent on the Southern beaches, like Paleochori and Firiplaka. Since we had young children, we weren't able to go to Tsigrado, since access is by climbing down a narrow canyon by holding onto a rope and then making a HUGE leap at the end. The kids just couldn't do the jump. If you are athletic, I highly recommend it.

We opted to take a less expensive and shorter boat ride to Kleftiko on the "Delphina" that left from Kipos. It was 3 hours long and we had two swimming stops, just enough time with kids. Wow - what an amazingly beautiful place! Kleftiko is not to be missed.

Lastly, we tried many restaurants but there is one truly Greek taverna that I urge all of you to go to. (just a side note, my husband is Greek, so we really know our traditional tavernas!). It is called Plakiani Gonia (meaning "Corner of Plaka") and is located in Plaka, on the main road just at the top of the hill on the left hand side (as you are driving up the hill). Seek this place out and enjoy Antonios, his wife Flora at what we found to be the absolutely best traditional food on the island!!

I sincerely hope you visit with the Captain and his lovely wife at their apartments. It was truly one of the most special places we have ever stayed!
