“Average Spiffied Traditional Soviet Hotel”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 7, 2013

I stayed here for two nights. Check in was friendly and reasonably fast. Receptionists speak English.

Every floor has a floor monitor who gives you your key. 7th floor lady was fine about allowing me to leave the room w/o handing my key to them.

My room was small with two single beds, cupboards, desk, chair, mini bar stocked with soft drinks, tiny TV, balcony.

It was reasonably clean--carpet could have done with a proper hoover job. But bathroom spotless and linen fresh and crisp. Towels were changed and rubbish emptied but my bed wasn't made. My travel companion had the room next to mine and did get his bed made though so this could have been an oversight. Floor lady did my laundry with same day return for a small fee. (No ironing.)

Curtain see through so bring eye shades as light comes in in the morning.

Fridge and pipes made a clanking noise at odd times, so good to have ear plugs.

Loads of hot water. First night room temperature was 19-21C. Next night 23C: as it got colder outside, they turned up the heat. (You can't do this yourself.)

Internet in the room is free and reasonably fast, though first voucher they gave me didn't work.

They have a pool you can swim in for 350 roubles before 1 PM. After 1 PM the price (which includes sauna) rises to a whopping 2,000 roubles!

Breakfast is included and a bit stodgie. No fresh fruit or cereal. They have cold cuts, sausages, eggs, cheese and porridge.

Overall, very decent provincial hotel.

Very good hotel for conferences. We've chosen Vladikavkaz for our event and didn't regret. Managers are professionally well trained, location is excellent. I view is fantastic. I expected very modest rooms but in contrary the rooms are renovated, clean and comfortable.

The hotel is friendly, staff speak some English and there is safe parking for your car. A little pricey, we paid 2200 roubles for a room, no double beds! Includes breakfast, wireless in lobby. Very reasonable restaurant in hotel, just a funky karaoke thing to listen too while eating! Room clean, comfortable, lots of hot water.

Room Tip: There are different levels of room, we went for cheapest, which was just a bit older, but clean and...

I stayed here for 6 nights in the winter in the most basic room for 1700rub per night. The view was fantastic even on the non-mountain side but for 2000rub a night you can have a view of mount Kazbek and the Caucasus. Room has a balcony, bathroom, fridge and cupboard. Heating was fine. The shower was freezing the first 2 days but when I spoke to staff they fixed it- only it took about 15 minutes to heat up. There are serveral places to eat on site and breakfast is included (porridge or eggs with cheese, kolbasa, bread and tea). Staff are friendly and pretty helpful but only speak Russian. There is a gift shop on site that also sells a few essentials which is helpful. You are supposed to give your key to the floor lady every time you leave your room which is a bit of an annoying tradition and if you take your key with you- she will try to catch you before you jump in the lift (not always successfully!) There is a telephone which you must buy credit for at the reception but many times they had run out of phone cards. Overall it's a fine hotel, especially if you don't have the money to stay at the Imperial Hotel down the road, which is 3 times the price, but expect a typical soviet style experience. Best to book about 3 weeks before your stay (not earlier) or they will not let you make a booking.
