“Just stunning!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 8, 2010

This place was just stunning. The room was beautiful with some beautiful design touches. Pierre was incredibly welcoming, the breakfasts were tasty and the facilities (gym, lounge, pool area, dvd library) were truly first class.

This is, hands down, one of the best hotels we have ever stayed in. The hotel is beautiful with thought put into every single corner. Pierre is a wonderful host, making breakfast every morning and hosting cooking lessons in the evenings. The rooms are all individually decorated and ours was exceptionally comfortable. This is a very small hotel so you have to appreciate that there is no restaurant / poolside service but there are a number of supermarkets and good restaurants near by. Small issue with wasps by the pool but perhaps this was due to the time of year we went. We will definately go back to clos.

We have never been in such a lovely place in southern France before.
The mix between french charm and latest design is absolutely fabulous.

Another thing which is really stunning is the breakfast. It' s the best we had with a lot of "spécialités" home-made by the owner Pierre. Try his breakfast creams you'll understand.

Always helpful, the service is really good. Just ask and you'll be helped.

If you want to try to cook french "cuisine" you should have a cooking course with Pierre.

All in all a charming, lovely place up to date with modern accents.

Bliss indeed.

Living and working in Paris, we are always looking for perfect destinations for a short break. We have our favourites, La Réserve in Geneva, One Aldwich in London, …. And then friends told us we must go to Uzès. So we looked it up on a map, checked out tripadvisor and went ahead and booked a couple of nights at the clos du lethe. Well to start with the destination, Uzés is simply mesmerising. The medieval town and the surrounding countryside are so romantic and enchanting you feel as if in another world. January may not be the best time to visit, we managed to miss the snow, but it was very cold, however this didn’t dampen the magic.

Arriving at the Clos du Lethe, set in a hamlet just outside Uzès, you push the little wooden door into the overgrown garden hiding a sprawling stone house. The room was just huge, with a bed so large that even W’s heavenly beds can’t compete. A large open bathroom, you can find the shower until you realise you are standing in it, and a bath large enough to call it a plunge pool!!!

Too cold to use the stunning infinity pool and too lazy to use the fitness room, but the steam room was perfect to sweat away the day to day stress, not to mention the few glasses of wine we enjoyed with our charming host Pierre afterwards.

We will definitely be back, and not just for two nights this time.

We stayed at Le Clos for 9 nights ..a real treat. Having already stayed at other chambres d'hotes in France we knew the way of service and the need to 'faites comme chez vous'. Nothing was too much trouble, providing you asked!! We stayed in Africaine and have to say the room was simply stunning. Bathroom was huge and we just loved the step in rain-shower. We never quite got round to having a bath. Bulgari toiletries finished the pampering experience. A huge bed, yes, two doubles, yes, but 9 foot wide linen sheets meant you could stretch wherever without feeling the 'gap'. We just loved the i-pod and the pre-loaded play lists (nice touch). Art, books, decor .....all fabulous. My husband fell in love with the kitchen which opened onto the garden and the pool area.
We are both good cooks but still signed up to the cookery lesson twice during our stay. Great fun! It wasn't a Le Manoir cookery school experience but was just as enjoyable...it was more like cooking with Pierre rather than a formal lesson as such. The food was fabulous - the first lesson was cunningly differentiated for the various skill levels of the guests there. Not too complicated, tuna starter, stuffed vegetables and a delicious dessert.... all washed down with as much wine as we could manage. We left the table to go to bed at 1 am after having made some friends for life over the kitchen worktops! The next week we had sea bass...glorious! Another excellent evening, the best part was the social interaction with other guests...many laughs shared over how one of the guests managed to break Pierre's KitchenAid blender!! Pierre took it well and didn't ration our drink as a consequence.
Whilst talking of food I can't not mention breakfast. Freshly cooked treats every day. Here nothing was too much trouble. Pierre even made my husband a special one-off surprise treat one morning. Breakfast was glorious, we'd come down at nine and still be there at 12 or 1 chatting to others... a great way to start the day.
We too opted for staying in one evening and had tapas. Delicious. Pierre showed us where the wine was stored, told us to help ourselves and left us in charge. For one glorious evening the house was ours! It was simply perfect, the food, wine, pool, moon and stars.
Would we go again? Absolutely.

It was the second year in a row that we spent several days in the Clos, and I think we're going to go back there every year...

We tried "La Blanche" and "L'Africaine", two beautiful rooms: the bathtubs are incredible (we could spend hours in the bath...) as well as the showers (especially in "La Blanche", placed right in front of the window, facing the countryside). We really appreciated the linen sheets and bath robes, as well as the Bulgari bath products... The terrasse and garden were also overwhelming, with flowers and big cushions where you can lie sunbathing. And last but not least, it was great to listen to nicely choosen music with the Ipod at our disposal in the room.

We enjoyed a lot having a "plateau repas" in the evening, on the romantic terrasse in front of the kitchen, with fresh products from the market and from the area, and also a good bottle of wine.

We also enjoyed a lot speaking with the owner about the place and the area. We had great fun taking a cooking lesson with him and sharing what we cooked after (his tarte tatin was delicious!!!).

In other words, we are going back to St-Mediers this summer, and we are looking forward to visiting the Clos again and again.

A wonderful place to rest in a romantic mood...

What a disappointment. We spent just over two weeks traveling around France on our honeymoon - we stayed at such lovely places (most a lot cheaper than this), and this was by far the most disappointing.

The place is pretty, we had the suite (it was the only room left available when we booked). The bed was gigantic (although two doubles pushed together), very nice, lovely art everywhere. The bath lovely. A let down in the room was the general cleanliness and lack of detail. For example, the large church style candles which had been put around the bath - both had lost their wicks into the wax, so we could not light them, the soap dispenser had a build up of gungy soup around the seals, the room came with a 'bath teabag' on the first night, which was not replaced on the second - so there was nothing to put in the bath. These may seem like small things but if you are paying 300 Euros a night you would not expect this lack of attention. Another disappointment was the outside bed, according to the website – perfect for naps. It was filthy – the cover did not look like it had been washed in over a year, and was stained with bird droppings. The steam room was not mentioned to us at all and when we enquired we were told it could be switched on – I got the feeling it was not something the owner wished to advertise.

The cooking lesson. We had booked a cooking lesson on the 2nd night - as a treat. My husband is really keen on cooking - and I could do with learning! Up until this point we had found the host a bit offish, not that friendly, and to be honest a bit miserable. Although we had not been bowled away by the place so far, we were both so happy about being on our honeymoon we had not let it bother us at all. We joked that we hoped the host would cheer up a bit and talk when we had our lesson! He had asked us what we would like to cook in the lesson, as he said he was going to the main market is Uzes (we had already been and its amazing with the most amazing fresh ingredients). We suggested fish, perhaps sea bass, to which he seemed to agree. This sounded lovely and we were quite excited about the lesson, after which you got to eat the food. When it came to it he said that there had not been much left at the market, and that we would be having tuna surprise to start (turned out to be tinned tuna, melted cheese and packet breadcrumbs mixed up), followed by crab cakes with roasted veg. The crab was ready picked stuff you buy in the supermarket, and the veg looked like it had been sitting there for a month. We paid £200 for the privilege. Honestly this was the worst meal we had in the whole of France – the host did not seem like he wanted to be there, we had thought we may be offered a glass of wine when we were cooking instead we had to ask for a glass of water. The lesson took about 3 hours, in which time we learnt how to open a tin of tuna, mix with grated cheese and add packet breadcrumbs, and chop veg to make roasted veg.

All in all we felt completely ripped off. We did not complain - it was our honeymoon, and we were determined to laugh about it. We certainly will not be recommending this place.
