“Like a 1960’s Motel 6 with an awesome view and nice pool”
Reviewed November 29, 2009

This hotel was probably quite an attraction back in the 60’s but is now in need of a serious makeover. The hotel is comprised of about 5 different 2-story buildings with the rooms in each all having a balcony facing the lake. The rooms are good sized, each with two queen size beds. The main building with the lobby has a restaurant overlooking the pool and lake and meeting facilities. There is a “disco” on the bottom floor that was not open during our stay and looked more like a room for a wedding reception. The poolside bar was also not open, probably only when it is crowded.

The good: Can’t beat the view of the lake and surrounding mountains; gorgeous and visible from about every room. The pool is very large and was crystal clean. It is on a patio overlooking the lake also. Very nice swimming with the lake and mountains in the background. If you are looking for a place to relax, read a book with an awesome view and swim in a clean pool, this may be your place. The t.v. was nice and the cable was very clear.

Unfortunately, the good stops there.

The not so good: The beds are very old and soft. One was almost like sleeping in a hammock sagging in the middle. The a/c was cool, but not very cold; needs a Freon boost. On a very hot day it may struggle to keep up. It leaked water on the floor inside the room and outside on the balcony also. The “hot water” was warm at best. If you used only hot, with no cold, it was a somewhat warm shower after a few minutes of the water running, but with very little water flow. If you add any cold water at all, all the heat is gone and you have a cold shower with more water pressure. There was a water pitcher to go fill up from a jug in the hall, but we were only given one glass for the 3 of us. One bath towel per person provided; no hand towel or wash cloth. The restaurant food was not great. The hamburger appeared not to be made of ground beef, but don’t know what it was. The fried fish dinner was huge. More food than you can eat. However, one side of the fish had no flavor, no season or anything. The other side had way too much salt. Two of us had this, both were the same. Breakfast was way overpriced. Bowl of cornflakes was $2. For Honduras that is outrageous. Also it was on the menu as cornflakes and banana but came without any banana which they said they did not have any. No substitute fruit given. Honduras is the banana republic and bananas are everywhere, 365 days a year, but not at this restaurant. The “continental”, toast, butter, jam, o.j. and coffee cost $2.65.

The bad: The dresser was worthless. All four drawers were broken. The room had plenty of mosquitoes. Bug spray was necessary while watching t.v. and sleeping. Recommendation if you stay here: bring a can of flying insect killer in addition to your repellant; totally fumigate by spraying under the beds, behind the furniture, under the sink and toilet, in the shower and closet area and then leave the room for a while. Found head hairs on the bed spread and floor in the bathroom. The would-be awesome view from the restaurant is destroyed by their dirty windows. They had sun reflecting tape covering all the windows in the past and every other window has had it peeled off, but leaving all the glue to make the window no longer see through with film. The location is in the middle of nowhere. Without a car you are in trouble. There are buses that pass by, but you cannot walk anywhere. We walked a half hour each way looking for a place to buy snacks and sodas, but nothing. There is no coffee pot in the lobby in the mornings; you have to purchase coffee in the restaurant. No extras are provided with the room cost.

By Honduran standards, this is not a bad hotel, but a little pricy for the quality of the room. If you plan to spend most of your time by the pool or on excursions on the lake and have transport to other places to eat it would be okay.
