“Best service in Central America!”
Reviewed August 21, 2013 via mobile

We had heard so many bad things about Honduras before travelling there that it is no wonder we weren't expecting too much from the country or the service. After a massive 12 hour bus ride from Nicaragua, we were exhausted and had no idea where we were going to be dropped off - but luckily fate intervened, we opened our guide book and D&D was the first name we saw! We phoned them up and were greeted by a lovely warm lady who told us not to worry, a taxi was on its way to pick us up. Twenty minutes later (with their friendly lovely driver), we arrived in the rain to warm welcomes and a clean, large, comfy room with hot water. After a shower we headed to the bar where we were treated to a beer tasting. After a yummy meal and one too many beers, we headed off for a peaceful sleep. And so our fabulous time at the brewery continued - the staff where unfaltering in their friendliness, and they have organised things so you never run out of activities to fill the days. We had loads of fun exploring, doing bird tours and the crazy Pulhapanzak waterfall! We made loads of friends with whom we're still in touch, including the staff - the two women who really made it for us - one of whom is the new manager and the other who was only there for a short time to help out - they're both the best! Without a doubt the best service and most fun we've had anywhere in Central America. I love this place and spread the word far and wide! Thanks for showing us what Honduras is really like! We'll be back, thanks guys!!

Spend a few nights there in July 2013.
Its located pretty remote, and doesn't seem like being a part of the usual gringotrail.
The staff are really friendly and speaks good english. Their are both dorms and private rooms, which are all spacey and clean. The facilities are great, with a pool, restaurant, bonfire, wifi and ofc most important a lot of different home-brewed beers. (They are really good!)
The nature in the area is beautiful, and you can easily spend a good amount of time there doing stuff like nature hiking, birdwatching, rent a row boat or visit waterfalls. (The D&D's offer a lot of different activities).

So overall a place you don't want to skip.

Thanks to Bobby and the team at D & D! We had a great time - excellent food and drink. D & D is such a relaxing, friendly place and there are so many fun things to do in the area. Bobby, the owner, gives great up-to-date advice on safety and activities in the surrounding area.

We heard about this spot from other travellers so made the stop here and we were very glad we did!

D&D has clean and comfortable rooms. The restaurant serves up some delicious reasonably priced food. The beer was a much needed change for us from the standard Central American beers!

There is heaps to in the area from hikes to waterfalls to tubing to bird watching- something to satisfy every taste!

And finally, D&D is located right next to a Honduran village- so there's easy access to the local community with great places to eat, etc.

Definitely one of our favorite spots in all of Central America!

I cant say enough about the warmth and generosity we felt while in Honduras for our recent honeymoon!! These feelings and experiences are a prime example why the future of central american tourism is in gorgeous Honduras.

A certain hotel, in the "backwoods" of the lago de yojoa area, exemplifies these traits and is leading the way in showing other hoteliers how its done...it's the magnificent D&D Brewery & Lodge.

Please take note this is not a Waldorf or even a Motel 6....THANK GOD!!!!

This place has character! A little world of it's own tucked into a paradise of fincas, rivers, waterfalls, lake, birds, streams, and mountains!! Where else in the world can a traveler of ANY background roll into the forest / jungle, get a clean place to sleep and wash up, a well prepared, cooked, and served HOT meal, sit around a bonfire telling ol' tales, while sipping on some BOMB.COM on-site brewed brewhaha??!!!!

After all that....waking up to LIFE!!!! and being able to do whatever the universe has in its mystical plans for you!!!

or

just having the best blueberry pancakes ever....then onto the universe stuff!!! They actually have a wall of stuff for you to do...waterfall, lake kayak, "butt" hill hike, bird watching, tubing, etc...The eco-tourism industry is going to eat this place up.

Onward....
Being a hospitality company owner (catering) myself, I can understand how hard it is to keep good help while also keeping your service standards excellent. It has to be even harder to uphold these standards out in the middle of a country that you are not a native of and 99% of natives have no training...
While I have read some past reviews that were not so kind to the service....Bobby has taken the issue by the horns and HANDLED IT LIKE A BOSS!! The new managers are great!! Smiles, love, and amazing service NON STOP the entire 3 days we were at the D&D.

Never as issue! Was actually one of the bonuses!!
The girls went as far as to decorate our room and put a bottle of vino on ice for us knowing it was the last couple nights of our honeymoon!! Beyond sweet and compassionate!!! (pix coming). Thank you!!!!!

In all...the area is gorgeous (waterfall took 5 minute hike!, lake is half hour hike), the hotel is perfect for the area ($15-$40 per night for private), the food is good to great, the beer is tasty and won't kill you, the service is amazing, the memories are for a lifetime!!!!!

Thank you Bobby and the rest of the krew for helping us end our perfectly-not-normal honeymoon!!!!

When's the root beer pulled pork going on the menu??!!!

Room Tip: Room in front is furthest from action....Cabins are in middle of jungle!!!

We stopped here to break up our journey from the bay islands through to Nicaragua (like many others) and ended up staying 4 days. Great place to base yourself for some hiking and nature watching. We took a nature/bird watching tour with Malcolm (we are NOT bird watchers!) and it was a really enjoyable morning. We also went to Pulhapanzak falls which was really great. Staff are friendly and purposefully challenging on our Spanish once they figured out we were trying hard to practice and the food was good. Oh, and great beers!!
