“Disappointed”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 7, 2012

This was the fifth hotel we stayed in on our self drive tour around Iceland and was the worst of them. The room was fine, travel lodge standard. Unfortunately being out of season the staff had a lax attitude and were not as professional as the prices they were charging us to eat and stay. First member of staff we saw on arrival walked out of the reception in pj's and didn't acknowledge us. And when we went up to the dining room another member of staff was painting her nails by the bar. The food was overpriced and horrendous, I had a heavily over seasoned salmon that and my fiancé had tinned carrots and tough lamb, not a £45 meal! The hotel had a closed up for winter feel and would like to think it is different in the summer months.

Very spacious, modern rooms with free wifi and satellite TV. Large modern bar area with pool table and large flatscreen TV. The food was outstanding! There was an excellent range of starters from smoked salmon, soup, reindeer pate, whale meat....... The icelandic lamb carved by the chef was superb. Breakfast was also to a very high standard with a wide variety of choice.
I woudl certainly stay at this hotel again if I returned to Iceland.

This hotel was a bit disappointing to be honest. Advertised as a “farm guesthouse”, this place is nothing like it. It is set in the middle of very nice plains, but the bunker-like structure of the hotel makes it feel awkward and out-of-place. Rooms were small but with a nice modern touch to it. That being said, the cleanliness of our room was questionable. As for the staff, it was ok I guess. Not rude but not welcoming either. Personally, we would stay elsewhere next time but that does not mean I’d necessarily condemn this place. It is probably better suited for groups or for people who are rather looking for a business-type hotel. In the summer, I believe there is also a golf course next to the hotel.

I have been at this hotel twice, the second time we cancelled a booking at another hotel so we could stay at Hotel Laki again. Both the times it was very nice to stay there....nice, comfy rooms, helpful staff and excellent food! I think the best time to visit this hotel is during the summer time when they have a lot of guests and therefore offer a big buffet (with a lot of food), more staff and better service. When I read other comments it seems like the hotel is different in the winter time. I highly recommend this hotel and you should ask for the better rooms (which are also more expensive). The second time we went there we decided to choose a cheaper room but when we came there we upgraded our room because the cheaper rooms are smaller, more plain and not as comfy...so it is worth it! We will definitely stay there again!

Room Tip: Not choose a room in the new building (number 300-something), the older ones are better

The breakfast selection was nice... that's it! The hotel extension looks like and feels like emergency shelters put together... The dinner menu selection was limited to one choice of apertizer, main course and dessert... we went in town for a very nice meal. WiFi is limited to public area (bar and lobby)... but was unreliable. I'm planning to go back to Iceland... but I will skip that hotel all together. I hope that hotel management does read these comments!!!

Room Tip: Skip the place... especially that they get bus loads of tourists... the breakfast buffet can be quit...

At least at the gas station, I would have had a cleaner room to sleep in, room to move around the bed and the opportunity for a decent meal. This hotel was a disaster from the minute we arrived. Once we checked in, we were escorted through three decent hallways (wood paneling, comforting brown walls) and then were taken to our prisons, I mean cubbyholes. We turned the corner and entered a stark white hallway of cargo box sized rooms. Upon wrestling the key into the lock and finally opening our door, we were greeted with an 8 by 8 foot room containing a bed... You notice, I didn't say anything else, because there wasn't anything else. There was a shelf above the bed with an artificial flower in a vase, two side shelves about 5" x 5 " and a "closet that existed in a cubby hole above a slide out wooden board that acted as a "desk." There was no phone, no tv, no wi-fi (even though the website doesn't say that the wi-fi is regulated to just the restaurant and lounge and that if there are more than 3 people logged in, you can't do anything.

Upon seeing the horribly overpriced menu for dinner (one soup choice, 2 main dish choices and one dessert choice) we chose to drive into town, and had an amazing dinner for what ended up being half the price (and we had more than a dozen choices!) The walls were paper thin and you could hear every footstep, conversation and whisper around you. The "bar" was triple the price of any drinks I had in Iceland (and we know how much it normally costs). I could have bought a bottle of alcohol for the price of one drink there.

There was very little customer service and when we asked about potentially switching rooms to a nicer section, not only were they filled with 3 budloads of tourists, but the rooms weren't much better.

Out of everywhere we stayed this was the most expensive hotel , charging 6000 ISK more for this room than any room we stayed in...... Twice the price at half the amenities.

Avoid this place at all costs! Just not worth the money.

Room Tip: There are no good rooms that we saw.....

I would not recommend this hotel. WiFi is limited to just the restaurant and bar area and the room they had us in had no TV or phone and I think it was part of a refurbished cargo container. I think they were trying to be trendy but the effect was less then stellar. The "cabins" outside are actually what we in the US would call a storage house. Seriously do not waste your time.
