Offering you a Bazaar of Opportunities to spot a diverse of wildlife, Yala national park is a perfect getaway for a complete change of scenery of your daily lifestyle.Reputed as the national park with the highest concentration of leopards in Sri Lanka, these lazy yet ferocious predators are the main highlight of a Yala Safari. Presenting you fierce leopards throughout the park saturated with thorny shrubs, tall trees, scenic lagoons and golden sand dunes, January to July is the season, one can catch the most leopard sightings. Apart from the sights of majestic elephants and leopards, a Yala safari can bring you the astonishing sight of exclusive sloth bear, wild boar, water buffalo, spotted deer, sambar and golden jackal.

Sri Lanka is a charming country to visit, and it offers great value for travellers.

WIthin Sri Lanka, there is a diverese range of attractions you can choose from: cultural, nature, history etc

This national park is the most popular in the country, and offers a great safari experience at a good price. As africa was out of our budget, we chose sri lanka and we were very glad with our choice. We saw birds, monkeys, spotted deers, leopards and elephants,

We made 2 trips to the safari area (1 day safari tour, and 1 night tour).

Highly recommended. Tip: do allocate 2 nights at a resort near the park to make sure u get to see the leopards, in case of wet weather.

Although we stated further away to Yala than I thought, taking around an extra 45 minutes each way to get there, I was surprised at how lucky we were with the safari. Saw a leopard and also had a small herd of elephants come right up to our jeep which was superb for photos. I would avoid going during the middle of the day because of the heat. It would be far too hot for you and also the animals are all seeking refuge too so less chance of seeing anything. By all means, you may see everything at that time, thats the wonder of a safari. In all honesty, it had nothing on my Tsavo Safari in Kenya although I had lowered my expectations for this trip although it still was better than i thought. Overall, the time it took from hotel and then back to hotel was about 4 hours with 2-3 hours of safari.

We had a private tour as we are touring Sri Lanka with a guide and so booked through him. Price we paid was around 5000 rs each, roughly 25 GBP. Good price for a tour of what the lowlands have to offer.

Overall - a very good experience and one that really is a must of you're around this area due to seeing all the animals.

One little afterthought - The roads around in inside the park are all very overused and bumpy. May give you slight bum/back ache, especially if you already have problems in those areas. Bring a cushion? :)

Our 5th annual January visit to Yala NP and we are still amazed by new animal encounters.
The birds... with help... are so diverse and colourful, photographing them becomes an addiction.
We use the same driver/guide every time (Suddha K P Priyankara) who seems to have a second sense of where to look and will soon make you realise how much you would miss if he did not point out what surrounds you. He is becoming a legend at Cinnamon Wild, even with the naturalists working there, and knows every inch of the park and all the off-the-beaten-track areas to take you (Tel: 0094 778814577). I can thoroughly recommend him.

We spent 5 days doing morning and afternoon safaris in Yala NP. We spotted 9 leopards including cubs, a Sloth bear, Elephants and other wildlife, such as crocodiles, snakes, land monitors, langur monkeys and plenty of birds. We enjoyed the safaris immensley, but I did feel sorry for the Leopards when there was an uncontrollable amount of jeeps, hustling and bustling to get a sight of the big cat, and it doesn't surprise me that they very quickly retreat back into the bush to get away....We also experienced spotting Leopards with only 1 or 2 jeeps around, this is just a nicer experience as you can sit and watch the animal in it's natural habitat without it getting alarmed! It is worth taking a full day safari so you can stay in the NP when the other jeeps go back to their hotels, just for some peace and quiet!

We didn't had a high expectation of this park. But we saw a lot of animals! Crocodiles, deer, big lizard, monkeys, lot of birds, leopard (a little far, but we saw one!)
The setting of the park is nice too. Green bushes and trees, nice little lakes.
All in all a value safari.
