We arrived at The Safari early evening after driving from Galle, and were taken straight up to our room. We were both blown away by the incredible view from our bedroom which overlooked the lake. The room was very nice with a large bed, two chairs overlooking the lake and a large, very smart en suite bathroom. By far this was the best hotel of our trip.

There is also a large pool with sun loungers facing out over the river, all-in-all a tranquil paradise and a great spot for anyone with an interest in birds. Contrary to previous reviews we were perfectly happy with the food, the buffet is the only option but there is a wide selection with lots of local dishes.

Would definitely recommend The Safari - make sure you get a room overlooking the lake!!!

The rooms were on the small-ish side and there was quite a walk from reception to our room however everything else was beautiful. The buffet was varied and delicious, the views from the pool into the river were great, the staff were friendly and the rooms were comfortable and clean. Overall was very impressed. Took an elephant ride in a nearby attraction (unsure of name) and visited "Katharagama" which was beautifully cultured and abundant with new sights and sounds. Also went on a "4wd safari" in the Yalla national park. Highly recommend this place if your looking for a place to stay in the area

After some brilliant hotels throughout our trip in Sri Lanka, this was somewhat of a disappointment. The situation is splendid by the side of the lake, but we were quite a long way from reception and restaurant. We had a very good lunch on the verandah when we arrived, but we found the evening buffet to be the least good of any hotel. The Sri Lankan curries were reasonable, but the desserts were garish and unattractive. The staff here also seemed less attentive than at other places. Perhaps, it was our mood but I don't think this hotel is up to the standard of the others we stayed at

After 6 hour ride in a mini-bus to Tissamaharama from Colombo, it is real refreshing to discover a wonderful resort there.
Tranquil surrounding, modern and resort-like rooms, facing a serene lake, provide a place for wonderful rest.
Food at the hotel restaurant is good in quality and variety.
Service from the staff is prompt and helpful.
Worth a visit if you are planning for a holiday at the end of nowhere.

Room Tip: Get a ground floor room that allows you to walk out into the lawn facing the lake.

Fabulous hotel - modern, trendy, stunning setting by the side of a lake. Staff extremely helpful, thorough and friendly - would recommend to anyone!! As you come into the foyer of the hotel - the other side is open to the pool and the lake beyond - best 1st impression of a hotel I have ever had!

Our favourite hotel of our trip - beautiful views, rooms & facilities. We overlooked the lake which was lovely especially in the morning. Only downside there is only a buffet service for dinner but the food was good all the same.

The Safari was the final stop as part of our organised tour of Sri Lanka and the one where we bid goodbye to our travelling companions prior to continuing on our own.
First impressions were very good, the layout of the hotel is very pretty, with an open lobby and a pool with a truely spectacular view out over the lake. The checkin process was fairly painless and quick as with all the other hotels we visited.
Our room to be fair was clean and spacious, with a nice view over the lake, and so far as it went everything seemed great.
Where it all went to pieces unfortunately was when we decided to use the bathroom.
The shower head was damaged and was spraying as much water up off the ceiling as it was downwards, and the shower cubicle also leaked out of the bottom. This led to a literal flood of water out into the room, and subsequently out into the corridor outside.
Having complained about this immediately after they send an engineer to sort it out (full credit for a fast response), but although he fixed the shower head he completely didn't fix the leak.
Long story short, 4 different complaints over the course of 2 days (including one where the cleaning staff told US we had a problem after noticing the river in the corridor) didn't resolve the issue and we ended up resorting to jamming towels up against the shower to try and prevent flooding.
In all fairness, we were the only ones with this problem, and I have no issue with an occasional situation like this, the quality of a place is shown in how they respond to it.
Not very well in this case.
The service round the hotel was a marked difference to anywhere else we'd stayed, you pretty much had to trip a waiter up to get any attention at all. I wonder if they don't understand the relationship between good service and tips?
Food was probably the worst we had the whole time in Sri Lanka, not a great selection on the buffet and most of what was there wasn't anything to write home about.

We had a fantastic time in Yala National Park (including seeing a leopard!), but if you want my advice, go to Chaaya Wild instead, it's much much better.
