Mendoza is a great place to vacation for food and wine lovers. However, the focus on beef and asado cooking can become monotonous if you one is not careful. Thank goodness for Mun's new restaurant adventure at Casarena winery. Chef Mun and Gary create a food and wine evening that combines Asian styles with fresh local ingredients. The common big table dining keeps the familial sense of a true Argentina meal. Enjoy!

Chef Mun and his team brought Asian fusion flavors and spice to Buenos Aires, and continue to heat up Mendoza! I had dinner on March 23rd and the venue, excellent wines, service, and, most importantly, each crafted dish made for the perfect foodie experience! Before you even take your first bite, you are charmed by the cava that dinner is served in. Surrounding you are French Oak barrels filled with Casarena's finest. The perfume of wine in the air tells you of what's to come. Each course managed to top the last. Spicy tuna on crispy rice served with Mun's signature pinot noir is Asian-Argentine wedding bliss. The malbec reduction glistening atop and beside the beef tenderloin should be served in a wine glass along with that course as I could not get enough of it. The chocolate lava cake made me ignore my dinner mates. If/when I return to Mendoza, I'm going to back to Mun's for seconds...and thirds...and fourths. Stop reading this review and make reservations already! The foodie in you will thank me.

For all the foodies out there that make it down to South America to expand their repertoire of wines at the "source" and the amazing meals that go with them, this is a must-not-miss!
After hearing about Casa Mun in Buenos Aires, but every time somehow never making it, I was glad to find out that Chef Mun has come over to Mendoza.
The whole experience is amazing, from the greeting with a chilled glass of Sparkling, to the presentation of the pairings, to Mun's inspiring tale of how he arrived to the decision to cook asian fusion cuisine.
The dishes were well crafted, perfect balance, suttle spice that reminds you of just how much more vibrant your life can be with a bit of wasabi!
The best part is that he keeps coming out from the kitchen to talk to you, to see how everyone is doing and just as quickly runs up to make the amazing following dish!
The sad part is when you get up from the table, for all you want to do is stay in that seat and keep your tastebuds partying!
Thank you for an amazing experience!

We spent two weeks in Argentina starting off in Mendoza. In keeping with my somewhat anal state, I undertook a lot of research on where to eat prior to the trip and wanted to identify a few notable restaurants in both BsAs and Mendoza to try out when we arrived . Along the way I came across Chef Mun Kim being mentioned in the most dazzling terms in BsAs on this site as well as that number of other food bloggers. When i then went to establish a date for a dinner in BsAs, it indicated that it had closed; but fortunately had moved to Mendoza, which was fortuitous.

We came across Casarena Mun during our second day in Mendoza in Lujan de Cuyo as we were heading to the beautiful and scenic vineyards of Achaval Ferrer, so was quite excited knowing that we would be back that way the following night for teh final dinner in Feb.

Casarena Mun is not the easiest place to find at night so i would advise folks to take them up on their offer to arrange your transportation from your hotel. Its a half hour ride from downtown Mendoza.. The drive there just made the evening's upcoming meal more anticipated.

Arriving at the vineyard we were welcomed by Cary and ushered into a reception area where we were served a sparkling wine and chatted with some of the other dinner guests ( around 24 total). We met 8 more Canadian there that evening excluding ourselves and once all the guests had arrived we were invited into the cellar where 2 long tables were laid out with numerous wine glasses at every seat. The evening didn't disappoint.

Between Chef Mun providing us with background and description of the wonderful dishes and Cary sharing his wine knowledge, pairing and pouring generous libations, it ended up being an unforgetablly fabulous experience and evening, one of the many highlights of our first visit to Argentina.
