We caught a bus , one euro eighty each way to the charming town of Archanes. The restaurant we visited was along the main street and then up a narrow street. ( directions from bus stop).
We avoided the market square outlets and discovered a real gem. The name written in Greek is not clear to me, however the phone number is 2810752011. Here you will find true Cretan fish and local dishes, locally sourced and freshly made. We had a Greek salad ( a magnificient production) with grilled octopus, and a marinated soused swordfish dish.
There was a family of four eating outside and a couple which took up the outside seats so we sat inside for our meal. This is a local restaurant and not catering like the many you will find in the public areas. Eat in the public areas if you wish but if you want a unique experience with outstanding food look a little harder and go beyond the tourist restaurants that clutter the main streets. Local beer is available ( not imported) and wine if you wish.
