This charming hotel has such an atmosphere of its past. Walking up the broad stone steps, indented by the thousands of feet of others who have gone before deepens the experience. It was delightful to meet Jose Luis again and hear about how things are going both at the hotel and in the vineyards. These are difficult times for Spain but one can't help but hope that little hotels like this continue to prosper. Our room was spacious and spotless, we had a TV and free wifi. The ensuite shower with traditional tiles and beautiful tapestry was perfect. The lounge is very comfortable with lots of books, games and music. While we were staying there was an exhibition of stunning patchwork art. As much as Jose Luis takes pride in his wines , Merche takes pride in her cooking. We booked in advance and enjoyed artichoke hearts in a delicious sauce, veal cheeks in a chocolate sauce and a chocolate fondant to share. We ate with gusto and drank a bottle of Empatia 2008 which was a perfect accompaniment. We had to leave Abalos early in the morning but true to form Jose Luis laid us an excellent breakfast of juice, fresh fruit kebabs, serrano, cheese, joghurt, bread, butter, preserves and cakes! The coffee and hot milk still tasted good despite the overnight in a Thermos. I hope this review makes you want to visit this hotel. We are sure you will feel happy here.

Renovated manor house. Rooms and comun areas are renovated with style with some original parts of the manor preserved. Service is fine and the hosts Jose Luis and wife are very helpfull during your stay. There is a nice terras to take a coffee or drink. Dinner ( only on pre-reservation ) is fantastic made and the Rioja wine selection on the menu is OK. Jose Luis has his own vineyard, just enough for hotel production. Compared with other Rioja Bodegas, this wine is very good. The rural hotel has a perfect location, Haro ( Rioja wine centre) is close, as well as Logroño ( capital of the Rioja region ). All importante Rioja bodegas are close and the hotel can always arrange a visit if required, although it is recomendable to make the visit's reservation with some time ( few weeks before ) and straight with the bodega. The hotel, Jose Luis, also foresees some wine related activities, which are highly recomendable. if you are stressed, well, this is the place to be : Quite place, good food and wine, interesting area, .....

What a charming, quaint and absolutely wonderful hotel in the La Rioja area. A must if you are touring the bodegas in that region. You will not be disappointed. Jose Luis is a most thoughtful and caring host. From his vineyard, he produces a deliciously tasteful 2010 white wine and a pleasant, full bodied 2007 & 2008 red wine. We were able to purchase some of his wines and take it back home with us. La Cocina de Merche provides exceptional cuisine. Her dishes are very innovative and oh so delicious and mouth watering. A more sweet and charming couple you will not meet. Our stay was so very enjoyable. We cannot rave enough about this lovely hotel. Some in our group did the tour of their vineyard and found Jose Luis extremely knowledgeable. Some of us were fortunate to have a cooking class with Merche who was very gracious and generous with her advice. We highly recommend this little gem.

Looking for a convenient stay in La Rioja, we stumbled upon this gem of a hotel. It's location is excellent for any wine touring in Haro, Laguardia, Logroño, etc.

The services was excellent and the couple who run the place are absolutely delightful. The breakfasts were nice, although the dinners, while tasty, could have been a bit better. That's the only reason I can't give it 5/5.

The owners also have a winery located in Laguardia (or Logroño) and we didn't find that out until we got there and it was too late to book a tour of their own shop. I would have preferred that but our packed schedule didn't give us the opportunity.

You won't be disappointed if you end up staying here.

This is a lovely small hotel in La Rioja. The owner is absolutely charming and the food well presented and cooked. The owner produces a small quantity of wine for consumption in the Hotel. Both his white and red wines are thoroughly recommended.

We used this hotel as a stopover en route to Southern Spain. Its less than 15 minutes from the A1 and makes an ideal overnight stay. The secure car park is another bonus.

Times are bad in Spain. I would urge you to support this hotel - You won't regret it.
