“A dream of an hotel in a dream location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 23, 2014

Every detail has been considered so that the guest is perfectly catered for. Pulling onto the front drive to clearly defined parking spaces, the warm welcome in the reception hallway on a dismal January afternoon. The thoughtfully furnished bedroom, beautifully decorated and maintained with its spotless en-suite bathroom.

Although not extensive, the dinner menu is sufficiently varied and the food is so very well presented that it really does seem a pity to upset the picture on the plate by eating. But upon eating, the dining experience is lifted to an even higher plan.

A night sleep in the Grizedale Suite was so comfortable that dreams took away all thought of what a wonderful "find" we had made here.

The breakfast table was extensive with so much choice and option. A wonderful start for the day.

Located on the quiet and peaceful Esthwaite Water in the lush scenery of the Southern Lakes it seems almost wrong to submit a review that could lead to others uncovering this gem too!

Room Tip: Whatever grade of room, a lake view is worthwhile.

I stayed here with my wife for an overnight stop in The Lakes. Sadly we could only stay for one night, but we're so glad we chose Sawrey House...

Plenty of clearly marked parking spaces out front, and on entering, the first thing we encountered with the superb welcome from Nick - friendly, efficient, informative and very professional. Nick gave us a quick orientation of the place, showing us the bar/lounge and the breakfast/dining room, explaining what happens when in the day. After which, we were shown to our Classic Room (#3), which was spacious, spotlessly clean and cosily warm. The bathroom was similarly spotlessly clean and with a good shower. And the bed was also very comfortable too.

Evening bar service from Toni was a joy. As per Nick, Toni is the type of person who is just born to excel in the hospitality industry. Between them, Nick and Toni managed to make us feel like we were staying in their country house-home rather than in "just" a hotel, such was the warmth and the service level.

In summary, the only problem that can be stated in this review is that we could only stay one night. We hope to be returning guests. Thank you very much Nick and Toni!

My husband and I booked in for a 1 night stay at his beautiful place for a fleeting visit to the area. My sister and her husband had been several times before and had always had very favourable things to say. All of them absolutely true! From the moment you walk in, you are greeted, in our case, by Nic who was an absolute pleasure and made us feel very much at home. He kindly gave us a tour of the downstairs, i.e. dining room and lounge bar which were very inviting. Our room, number 3 was superb. A large, beautifully decorated room and spotlessly clean in every way, from the window sills, skirting boards, to the pristine shower room, carpets and beautifully clean bed linen. The bed was one of the most comfortable we have ever slept in.

Dinner was a real treat, the food was locally sourced, cooked to perfection and the flavours were incredible. The value you receive from this fabulous hotel is second to none. For £95.00 in a classic room for 2 adults including dinner, bed and breakfast at this standard is exceptional. The staff are second to none, especially Nic and Toni. Many thanks, we look forward to our next visit!!

We went on a last minute two night stay on a b and b basis with an evening meal and cream tea. On arrival the hotel was set in a fab position with stunning views and was very well maintained. We had been upgraded to the Grizedale suite which is a large room with a lovely four poster bed which is very comfortable. The en suite shower room was clean and again in good order. The best thing about this room is the stunning views across the woods and nearby lake. In the Rom waiting for us was a half bottle of champagne and chocolate covered strawberries, a lovely touch. Cream tea was a very large and very tasty scone each and the usual cream and jam and home made shortbread again lovely. The evening meal was chosen from a small menu, but the food was absolutely delicious. My steak was cooked exactly as I ordered and was of the highest quality. The surrounding countryside was a joy to explore and the staff really did make us feel important. Breakfast was of the same high standard, and to be honest the nearest I can come to criticism is the butter was too hard to spread, but who cares. This place is great and we will be going back!

This hotel is situated in a lovely quiet part of the Lakes, well away from the bustle of Windermere.

Our room had a view across the gardens and fields, with the lake in the background.

Really pleasant staff who took pride in their work, and it showed.

We were on an excellent dinner, bed and breakfast deal for two nights, and it was great value.

You come to this sort of hotel to enjoy the ambience, and to eat well. Sawrey House did not let us down. Both breakfast and dinner were great, both in quality and presentation.

Room Tip: The first floor lake view room was lovely.

The Sawrey House Hotel is the perfect get-away. Despite its proximity to Hill Top and the huge tourist trade it generates, the hotel is sufficiently tucked away to avoid the worst of the crowded periods, and boasts stunning views, wonderful walks, superb food and excellent value. If possible book a lake view room; it’s well worth it. Staff are friendly and courteous, service is very good and both cleanliness and care to attention are evident throughout the hotel. The breakfast (and the view from the breakfast room) are also great reasons for staying here. I am in part moved to write in answer to the (very) few negative reviewers who seem either to be professional complainers for whom nothing will ever be right (those for whom Basil Faulty was invented) or who appear not to have bothered to have read the hotel specs before booking, but are happy to critique services and décor not advertised. By comparison the hotel’s responses are a model of politeness and relevance which some reviewers don’t deserve and which too few hotels bother with. Book to stay here – bed and breakfast with evening meal is always the best – and you won’t be disappointed.

From the moment we arrived for my wife's birthday treat weekend, to the wave goodbye from Nick (who, along with Alin, looked after our every need) we had a superb weekend. We stayed in the Esthwaite room, which has four poster bed and jacuzzi bath. One of the hotel's best features is its food. Both the breakfasts and the evening meals were top class. The chef is to be congratulated on both taste and presentation of the food. Service from Nick and Alin were also top notch. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Esthwaite is on the top floor. A little further to walk upstairs, but well worth it for the extra fa...
