Where to start, so many positives!!! This is a beautiful small hotel set in a beautiful location with lots of opportunities to walk.It has a lot of history which you can read about in the information that awaits you in your room. We found this very interesting and it gave you a feel for the place. As soon as you walk through the door you are greeted with a very warm welcome that lasts your whole stay. Our bedroom was very comfortable with a large king sized bed and a lovely bathroom. There was a TV and facilites to make a drink, which was just what we needed after our walk around Windermere / Bowness and we'd crossed over the lake by the ferry (we arrived by train). But there is a bus service (Mountain Goat) from Windermere which takes you via the ferry and drops you 100 yards from the hotel. Although this does not operate during the week in the winter period. However there is an excellent taxi service we would definitely recommend (just the one, so book early). There is a fantastic comfortable lounge with a real open fire and great views over the garden with the breathtaking scenery of fields and hills in the distance. We spent both our nights after our meal, relaxing in the warmth of this room where our coffee, petit fours and drinks were served.
We would definitely recommend eating in the restaurant because the food and service is first class!!! They had a varied menu (which was changed daily) that consisted of all locally sourced produce which was excellently cooked. The attention to detail added to the experience from the canapes served in the bar, before you are shown to your table, to the varied excellent selection of home made bread rolls served with your meal. Breakfast again is as good as the dinner with a large selection of cereals, fruit and juices, which you help yourself to, followed by a varied selection of cooked food. All enjoyed with the excellent views from the window of the garden, fields, lake and watching the wild rabbits and pheasants.
All the staff are friendly, curtious and professional and are a credit to whoever trained them.
We definitely recommend the Sawrey House Hotel and we will definitely be returning!!!!
