“A wonderful Dog Friendly Inn”
Reviewed May 29, 2014

In April this year we decided to book a short break in the Lake District as we now have a dog and needed dog friendly accommodation. So after a search on the internet we decided on the Tower Bank Arms in Near Sawrey Ambleside. We were not disappointed

This lovely old inn nestles in a pretty little village near Hawkeshead were Beatrix Potter once lived

Although our room (one of only four) was small it was perfectly adequate with wonderful views of the village and the fells beyond. Our rather large dog was made most welcome and settled into the room without problem.

The evening meal in the flagstone floored bar area was fabulous. My wife and I both had the belly of pork which was much bigger than we could possibly eat, we probably didn’t need the starter. The array of local beers were all well kept, so after sampling more than we should, we staggered off to bed, full and happy.

After a good nights sleep, we had an enjoyable breakfast and set off with the dog on a circular route on one of one of the many walks running directly from and back to the village, a distance of about three miles

This was my first visit to the Lake District The views are stunning and I loved this little Inn. The Staff were friendly and helpful, the prices were very reasonable. We were however surprised that the restaurant should close so early in the evening I think about 8 or 8.30. Our thanks to our hosts. We would love to stay at there again

We've just spent two nights with our friends and three dogs at the Tower Bank Arms. It really is a delightful place to stay; next door to Beatrix Potter's 'Hill Top' house and with stunning scenery and walks on the doorstep. The food and wine are excellent as is the beer. Breakfast was fabulous as well with everything tasty and piping hot.
Anthony the landlord was extremely helpful, giving directions for local walks and lending us a map so we didn't get lost.
We would have given the place an 'excellent' review but the rooms are really in need of a little TLC with some flaking paint and jammed windows. However that said, we would have no hesitation in returning in the very near future.

Room Tip: Methera is a slightly larger room.

Visited twice to eat and drink during a weeks stay at Near Sawrey. It's cosy, old-fashioned and totally delightful. The cask ale is terrific (local brews - try the Loweswater Gold, a marvellous pint), the wines are well priced and good quality. The food is great, beautifully cooked, good sized portions. I can highly recommend the black pudding with pancetta, the asparagus tempura, the HEARTY beef stew (served with fluffy herby dumplings and brilliant chips - only for big appetites), but the star performer for me was the chicken stuffed with haggis and wrapped in pancetta - tasty stuff indeed. The staff here are superb and give really good service. The owner is a top bloke who obviously really cares about both his customers and his establishments standards. I would not hesitate to recommend this place, turn up early though, they serve dinner from 6pm and it is only small (but that's part of its appeal). Best plan is to arrive at fiveish and make a pig of yourself on the excellent Cumbrian ales until they are serving food. Dogs also more than welcome, my border collie was honoured with a bonio from the guv'nor. Visit this place - you'll love it !!!!

My sejour over Easter this year had only one very big problem ; I had to go home from a hotel which does everything with excellence. The beer is super, the wine excellent with very reasonable prices and the cooking is inspired. Throw in the fact the staff are cheerful attentive , without being overbearing and the owner is a man who understands his customers and their wants and needs and you have a pefect place to stay and relax in. Don't all rush there though I want to go back

My boyfriend and I have eaten at the pub on many occasions and I'd always wanted to stay given it's warm, cosy and welcoming feel to the pub. We extended our long weekend to the Lakes especially so that we could stay at The Tower Bank Arms. From the email correspondence before we arrived right to when we left after a beautifully cooked breakfast (amazing sausages), everything was just perfect.
The atmosphere at the pub is lovely and friendly and Anthony and all the staff really do make you feel welcome. We were thrilled when we arrived to be upgraded to the best room, which was a lovely surprise.
A real treat after a long weekend of walking and camping...thank you so much for your kind hospitality.
We will def visit again when we are in the area....!
