In April this year we decided to book a short break in the Lake District as we now have a dog and needed dog friendly accommodation. So after a search on the internet we decided on the Tower Bank Arms in Near Sawrey Ambleside. We were not disappointed
This lovely old inn nestles in a pretty little village near Hawkeshead were Beatrix Potter once lived
Although our room (one of only four) was small it was perfectly adequate with wonderful views of the village and the fells beyond. Our rather large dog was made most welcome and settled into the room without problem.
The evening meal in the flagstone floored bar area was fabulous. My wife and I both had the belly of pork which was much bigger than we could possibly eat, we probably didn’t need the starter. The array of local beers were all well kept, so after sampling more than we should, we staggered off to bed, full and happy.
After a good nights sleep, we had an enjoyable breakfast and set off with the dog on a circular route on one of one of the many walks running directly from and back to the village, a distance of about three miles
This was my first visit to the Lake District The views are stunning and I loved this little Inn. The Staff were friendly and helpful, the prices were very reasonable. We were however surprised that the restaurant should close so early in the evening I think about 8 or 8.30. Our thanks to our hosts. We would love to stay at there again
