Brilliant. Exactly what we needed. A cosy table for two. Excellent food. Very friendly atmosphere. Nothing not to like.

“Visited because of the reviews”
Reviewed May 6, 2014

Very quaint pub that serves gastro. Packed ans a requirement to get there early as they don't take bookings.
The food was very dissapointing and therefore expensive for the quality. I had a rib eye steak at £18.50 which was not much bigger or thicker than a minute steak and came with either reheated or frozen chips.. My partner had the tough roast beef that came with a frozen yourkshire pud and burn veg.
All in all a waste of £50.

“Wish this was my local...”
Reviewed May 4, 2014

Visited twice to eat and drink during a weeks stay at Near Sawrey. It's cosy, old-fashioned and totally delightful. The cask ale is terrific (local brews - try the Loweswater Gold, a marvellous pint), the wines are well priced and good quality. The food is great, beautifully cooked, good sized portions. I can highly recommend the black pudding with pancetta, the asparagus tempura, the HEARTY beef stew (served with fluffy herby dumplings and brilliant chips - only for big appetites), but the star performer for me was the chicken stuffed with haggis and wrapped in pancetta - tasty stuff indeed. The staff here are superb and give really good service. The owner is a top bloke who obviously really cares about both his customers and his establishments standards. I would not hesitate to recommend this place, turn up early though, they serve dinner from 6pm and it is only small (but that's part of its appeal). Best plan is to arrive at fiveish and make a pig of yourself on the excellent Cumbrian ales until they are serving food. Dogs also more than welcome, my border collie was honoured with a bonio from the guv'nor. Visit this place - you'll love it !!!!

“Great Location with wonderful food.”
Reviewed April 29, 2014

We were staying the village of Near Sawrey and called in for a drink. Lively atmosphere with a open fire, we enjoyed it so much we returned the following evening to dine, the restaurant was full but were able to eat in the bar after a short wait. The food was lovely with a great choice on the menu and would happily return here. a real find.
