This year was our third visit of this hotel, situated in the most amazing valley surrounded by fir-trees.
THE HOTEL itself is excellent, a true surprise for us at the first visit. As a family with two small children, we had a junior suit in the first year, where they put us an extra bed (the service was fast and very kind) and a duplex suite this year. The Duplex suite had a living room with a couch downstairs and two bedrooms with double beds upstairs, separated by a door. The back bedroom has a small balcony, right under the woods, which was amazing in the morning. The living room also has a balcony, facing the main entrance and the village.
The room was extremely clean, excellent service, the bathroom small but clean and perfectly functional. Any request we had, it was solved promptly and kindly. Really, no reproach. The hallways and elevator were also very clean, I saw the cleaning ladies vacuuming the carpets, which I didn’t see in other more „fancy” parts of Europe.
THE RESTAURANT has a large terrace, with an impressive view on the mountains (the massive Bucegi) and the woods. Food is great, a little expensive, but very fresh and nicely served. In the first day, we had a complaint, as the kids were hungry and nobody came to attend our table, whereas other tables were attended by more waiters. I complained with the chief of the restaurant and he apologized. Then, by the end of our meal (as we were with friends, we were 9 at a table and the service went on really quick, they came all the time to see if everything was allright or to let us know if and when a meal would be a little late...) the chief came and asked me what do I think and I said it was fine, not to worry about it. However, the next day, the Resort Manager came and apologised personally, we were given cake as a surprise after lunch and a plate of cookies waited in the room with a letter from her part. I was moved by this care, the incident was a trifle for me, I wouldn’t have gone to complain to the manager, apparently the chief of the restaurant reported to her, and this proved that they really care for the customer. The resort Manager, Mrs. Boanta, is a wonderful lady, with a good word for everyone in the hotel, she is inspecting the place all the time, talking to the customers, explaining them what to to and where to go, telling jokes to the kids and trying to solve any small problem you might have. And so is the staff as well.
Breakfast (included in the room rate) is very good and fresh, with a variety of hot and cold dishes. The coffee was not very strong, but all in all everything you need, even for the kids.
Moeciu de Sus is a wonderful village, with small hay houses (odai) scattered on the green hills, with woods of fir trees and a mountain river (Valea Bangaleasa), perfect for resting or for hiking or for small walks with the kids. A few kilometers down river you can find Cheile Gradistei, a gorge through the mountains. The place is filled with small hotels and pensions (Mistral is the largest hotel here).
THINGS TO DO
You can either stay in the resort (there is also an outdoor playground, with many toys, but no indoor playground, this is a small minus) or go for walks around, in the woods or in the village. If you take the car, you can go to visit Vlahia Inn, where there is always something going on (a few kilometers back in the village; when we were there, they had a music festival and contest, with concerts and a small fair) or you can go farther to visit Bran Castle and fair or even Rasnov citadel or the beautiful city of Brasov.
All in all, a perfect weekend and an amazing place. All I could think about when leaving was finding a time to come back as soon as possible! Thank you, Mistral, thank you Mrs. Boanta!
