We stayed in the 1 bedroom log cabin motel room and were quite comfortable. The staff were friendly and allowed an early check in. The room had a basic kitchenette with a small oven/grill and a cooktop. There is an onsite laundry. The motel is a 10 minute walk from the national parks visitor centre or a short drive to longer day-walks.

I was really impressed by the friendly and efficient service. So willing to help out with the minor disasters(lost phone) and trivial needs (how can I enjoy my holiday without a kitchen whisk). We had frosty weather, but the unit was warm and comfortable. Good value for St Arnaud.

Our unit at Nelson Lakes Motels was very comfortable and well-equipped - with everything we needed for a pleasant stay. We were a little surprised at the costly wifi (most places do not charge for wifi) but maybe this was because of the isolated location. Certainly not something that would put us off staying here again. The local general store has reasonably good supplies but is a little expensive - would recommend stocking up in a larger centre before heading to St Arnaud.

Thank you for your review , happy you enjoyed your stay with us !
You are correct in what you have said regarding the WiFi , being a smaller business and our location, we had been unable to offer free WiFi but we now can, so 100MB per person free (enough to check emails, update Facebook etc ) and if more is needed it can be purchased online with your credit card. So great to have this available to our guests now.

I stayed in both the cabins & lodge recently (April 2014) and found both to be excellent value for money.
Service is top-notch and I was most impressed by how clean everything is.
Well done, Nelson Lakes Motels! Your efforts are appreciated

travelling down highway 63 6 oclock at night, nearly 2 hours out of blenhiem and we thought we were not going to find anywhere to stay the night when we almost passed this place.

stopped (quickly) and went into the carpark and into reception

really nice host showed us around the cabins and backpackers.

liking the conviviality of a backpackers so we chose here and it was a good decision

sat on the upstairs veranda looking out over the vista as the sun sank

room roomy, comfortable and cheap with great views

kitchen nearly industrially large and all stainless steel with functional dining area

cant fault it and it should be put on the map

Stayed for one night in a studio unit and received warm welcome. Unit was modern in design and well appointed throughout,
Fantastic panoramic views of the mountains and a 5 minute walk to Lake Rotoiti made this an idyllic stay! Easy to walk to small village centre.
Would recommend without hesitation!

We had a one bedroom motel unit which had a number of differences from most motels we have stayed at in New Zealand.

Positive differences were: (obviously) a separate bedroom, and a further single bed in the main room; a small oven (as well as a hob and microwave); a couch that would easily seat 3; great water pressure in the shower; well spaced out two unit log buildings; relatively private and quiet; cheaper than most.

Negative differences were: no bath and a hanging rail but no drawers or shelves for your clothes etc.

For us the net balance of these differences was certainly positive.
