My partner and I stayed in a log cabin studio unit at the end of September. The queen bed was comfortable, though quite firm, with ample bedding to keep us warm. The unit was lovely and warm, the owner kindly put on the heater before we arrived. The small kitchen had a microwave, small cooktop, toaster, jug and enough utensils and crockery for what we needed. The bathroom had a shower, vanity and toilet. There was a TV with several channels but unfortunately the Sky Movie channel did not seem to be working. The unit had ample room for my partner and I without us tripping over each other. The whole complex was tidy and well maintained and the owner friendly and accommodating. It was very quiet at the time we were there as there were not many guests. At the rear of the complex there was a path which led to the lake front through spectacular native bush beside a picturesque stream.

This motel was great. We were four people so booked a two bedroom cottage for two nights during NewZealand summer. The cottage was really spacious. It has nice good size rooms with a kitchen. Rooms were very clean and the cottage look to be newly built.
I would rate the location of the motel its best value. If you want to be with nature and like a peaceful and a non-touristy place - dont miss out.
The motel is a short walk to the lake where we did some kayaking and took a water taxi tour.
St Arnaud is a really small place; there is a small petrol station with a shop for basic needs.

Enjoyed the stay. Good for place for stay for exploring the nelson lakes area.

Room Tip: Choose a cottage.

Motel was good, we got a log cabin and it was very nice and warm. Basic kitchen but that's what we wanted for a short stay after a conference in Nelson. We loved the location though. Beautiful and peaceful. Probably not everyone's cup of tea, it was pretty quiet around the village! It was a bonus to be able to walk to the lake from the motel using the track along the stream.

The motel consists of different building and a small path brings you right into nature. Very close to Lake Rotoiti. Which is part of the magnificent Nelson Lakes NP.
The units are clean and the the beds are comfortable. The kitchenette has everything you need.

We stayed in a log cabin studio which was comfortable and well appointed. Very conveniently situated near the the village store and fish and chip shop. St Arnaud is a very quiet place but a great base for exploring the surrounding lakes and mountains. Although we would recommend this accommodation we found it less welcoming than other places we have stayed in New Zealand.

Nelson Lakes Motels is owned by the same people who have the Travers-Sabine Lodge.
Go for one of four 'contemporary studio' units and you will find very well-specc'd accomodation - warm, spacious, comfortable, quiet and extremely good value at $125/night. Wake up to awesome native bird song and the sweet mountain air!
To get the best out of this place...
Take dinner and breakfast makings. The kitchen is well set up with everything you need for meal preparation. We packed a frozen casserole from home, a good loaf of bread, and eggs, fresh milk and fruit. There is a restaurant at the other lodge down the road but we haven't tried it.
Be prepared to do you own dishes! It helps keep the cost down.
Take a flashlight or a torch, especially if arriving after dark - there are no lights on the grounds apart from the office and the car park/driveway is a bit of a rabbit warren if you're not used to it.
The wall heater in the unit has a timer switch underneath it. If this is not on you can turn the heater up as high as you like and nothing will come out.
Check the window above the bed before retiring for the night, otherwise it might be a bit chilly!
If arriving late-ish, phone the owners and let them know. They'll process a credit card booking over the phone, open up your room, turn on the lights and heater and you can walk straight in without faffing about with check in/check out.

Room Tip: Unit 7 has an east-facing window to catch the morning sun
