The hotel is situated in a pcturesque village on a hill. Our room was small but adequate with a lovely view. Bathroom was excellent; it looked fairly new. Breakfast was not lavish, but very good. The hotel restaurant served most excellent meals, no need to look for another.
Loved our stay here very quaint medieval village,the hotel and swimming pool have commanding views of the hills and countryside. Hotel staff extremely polite and pleasant. We had to change rooms as the hotel was fully booked and we wanted to stay extra nights a good testament to the hotel and its location. Our first room was in the main hotel, small clean nice bathroom with a balcony view. The other room was more private away from the hotel much larger and equally nice.(no view not as modern however well maintained) We did not eat at the hotel, expensive "fine dining" is not what we are about. Montelimar is quite a drive but easy to get to we, ate there each evening. A small possible downside, it is a tourist area for the medieval buildings located in the village,the numbers are not excessive and to us they did create a pleasant atmosphere.
Les Hospitaliers was founded by M.Morin's father who also restored and promoted this medieval village. I have known it for over thirty years.
The hotel is a modest group of buildings well integrated in the fabric of the place. The emphasis is on the food, excellent at breakfast, lunch and dinner. The staff are kind, efficient and tactful. They do not hover over diners to encourage them to eat or drink too much. Whatever meal you are eating, the experience is infinitely enhanced by the wonderful views across the hills - blue in the morning as the sun rises, turning to purple in the evening as it sets. There are few places - even in la belle France - with such a setting.
I recently took one of the bigger rooms - in fact we sampled two - and have no complaints about the beds or the spotless bathrooms. The absence of air-conditioning is a big plus - completely unnecessary in this setting.
The pool and garden area are assets which could be made more of in a low-key way.

Very comfortable rooms in the historic hotel set in a beautiful peaceful landscape. Cherries picked that morning for breakfast, divine home made jams and pastries. Dinner very good the night before.
Nice little hotel in a lovely quiet village. Rooms are big. Breakfast was very good. The pool is so nice to cool down. Two complaints : no A/C and lots of wasps in the area.
We took advice from someone posting on the Lyons forum who replied to my enquiry about stop-over suggestions just south of Lyons (we were driving from London to Nice) and booked a night at Les Hospitaliers. It was a beautiful place but I thought the food was a little disappointing and the rooms uncomfortable (tiny beds) and hot. It was also at least 45 minutes from the autoroute rather than the 15 minutes the person who responded to my enquiry suggested. Adding 1.5 hours on to a drive south wasn't great for us. Had the food, bed, and room temperature been better it would have been worth the detour I guess.
