Very interesting and well worth a visit. No need to buy an expensive tour if you are in any way adventurous - the island bus service is good, simple and relatively cheap.

Pyrgos can easily be overlooked since it only appears as a small out of the way village you pass through on the bus route. However, if you get off the bus and explore you will be pleasantly surprised how suited to tourists it is.

This local Greek dude mentioned it was the highest point on the island and when we got to the top we believed him. It's the type of high where you can actually see the "shape" of the island by the contours of it's perimeter, as you would on a map. Felt really connected to the world at that moment.

If you stand with your back to the entrance of Santo Winery in Pyrgos, and ride in a perfectly straight line about 2 miles up the long street, you'll happen upon this homely little village. It reminded me of Alfama in Portugal.

If you're passing by and have a little time, it's worth a visit. It's nice to explore around, it doesn't take much time.

You'll reach nice spots with spetacular view to the island.
