Small family run restaurant in the pictoresque village of Pyrgos (that I really suggest to visit, a typical Greek village with white houses and blue roofs, an incredible hidden jem). The food was amazing, I really liked the "tomato balls", fried tomatos and the plate of mixed meat cooked by Penelope and served by his husband.
Dont' mind about the fact that the service is not so elegant or formal.
In this restaurant, just on top of the village, you'll eat as a Greek, far from tourist traps and big groups.
It's like being guest of my grandmother for a simple lunch , with the difference that they speak a basic English too.

If you like traditional food and relaxing atmosphere this is the best place in Pyrgos. We had lunch and selected the meat platter which was excellent. This restaurant is run by an old couple that are bringing tradition back and we love it.

Hidden in a cellar of small and old fashioned Pyrgos (away from the beaches and mass tourism), there is a home cuisine called Penelope's. Best described as the Granny's kitchen. For all the people who know how your grannys used to cook, prepare meals and how they knew how to spoil their families, you know already how this felt like. It felt like a time capsule in which you travel without moving into past times and memories of how it felt and tasted like when you were a kid. Everything so tasty, delicious and rustical, olives, tatziki, fried tomatoes and cake on top, prepared by wonderful and cheerful Penelope, served by her husband. If you miss your home and want to have a quick meze after Pyrgos visit, this would be the place you need to visit before your trip. Definitely worth a stop.

This is my second visit to Penelopes. Penelope and Mannos make the best tomatoballs in Samtorini, and other dishes are also wonderful. Most of all the old couple themselves are so lovely, friendly and always smiling:)
