We stayed here on a Groupon deal, what a fantastic place! The staff were brilliant, friendly and relaxed. A real credit to the hotel. Would definitely stay here again. The dinner menu was fab - each course was fabulous.

Me & my sister stayed here on the 19th & 20th Sept. Room 16 was ideal, away from reception & looked out over the front of the hotel. Very big spacious room, very clean, huge bathroom, power shower & coffee facilities. The girls on reception were friendly & helpful.
Breakfast was very nice, full english, cereals, yogurts, croissants, fresh juice, coffee & tea. Only had dinner one night, unfortunately we ordered the chicken tandoori, which was very nice, but there was no sauce, just chicken, rice & nanna bread, it was way to dry.
The first night, we ate in the pub in Aberdare. I had beef & ale mushroom pie with mash, it was DELICIOUS.
The welsh cream tea was ok, only served between 12 & 4.
The hotel in in a lovely quiet setting. I highly recommend it.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front of the hotel have a better view.

After finding this lovely Country Hotel by accident, 12 months previously, after needing a coffee and gateaux because we arrived before the local Penderyn Whisky Distillery (see review!) had opened, we booked a short break to celebrate our Silver Anniversary.
WE COULDN'T HAVE HAD A BETTER TIME ANYWHERE!
We had been informed (at the time of booking) of a wedding party on our second night and were asked to move to the lower carpark, which we did no fuss.-The bride and groom were v.happy and we were not neglected in any way. I fact the wedding party added to the experience!!
.......back to the review.......
The staff were informative, courteous and very helpful. Service was prompt and professional, even at busy times and apologies were made for any slight oversight. Some staff were young and under instruction but well directed by the senior staff.
The Room was clean, tidy, well appointed and spacious with superb views. Incidently the shower screen DID open outwards to access the taps no problem!
The food was EXCELLENT-Breakfast was top notch plenty of choice-cereals fruit continental and a superb fry-up (proper local sausages and bacon too) The evening menu (fully explained by the staff was wonderful, plenty of choice, excellently prepared, cooked and served. The chef has a special touch with Veg! either simply done or dressed they were perfection and made the meal for us!!
The surrounding area has much to offer- scenic views and drives or walks through the nearby Brecon Beacons Park. Towns and villages of charm and character with rural or industrial history shining through the old image of industry and dirt.
This hotel is not an island of artificial 'lifestyle' but a well used part of local life, a bit worn and cobwebby-yes- but all the better for it. LOVELY!

Room Tip: If a wedding is booked rooms in the wing away frm the function room are best.

Booked for a 1 night break which included Welsh afternoon tea and Welsh breakfast. Both of these very good indeed but as for the rest the hotel had to offer........... we would never consider returning!!!!. On arrival, receptionist came out to the forecourt and advised us that we could not park in the reserved 'disabled' car parking area due to the imminent arrival of a wedding party and consequently the forecourt needed to be kept free for photographs.Ok this was acceptable to us as alternative parking was just a short walk away. . We arrived at 2.40 p.m. and the hotel was almost deserted yet the receptionist said we would have to wait until 3 pm to check in. So, we sat outside for a while but again no sign of anyone else except for a couple having afternoon tea. The receptionist was not able to give us any history on this listed building with only about 4-5 lines in a brochure which mentioned original owners but sadly lacked any history which would have been so interesting given the age and architectural structure of the building. For the good points - food very good. Breakfast - many choices and good quality produce. Similarly, evening dinner varied menu, average price for 3 courses 25GBP. Rooms, very clean, spacious and well furnished BUT........ trying to get into a bath BIG difficulty due to shower screen at side of bath being so long (and moving only inwards over the bath) made it impossible for one to reach the taps to turn water on. One would need to literally get into the bath, walk toward the taps and turn them on so.....one needed to be ready to get into the bath given that water flowed immediately. I would have loved to ask one of the hotel maids to 'run me a bath'. Were she to comply, there is no doubt she would have had to take her shoes and stockings off to reach the taps or risk getting her shoes wet if she chose to keep them on
Shower unit over the bath completely independent water supply to bath taps. Whoever installed the lengthy shower protection screen obviously did not think to make it more manoeuvrable to be able to reach the bath taps.!!!!
However, the most negative thing about the stay was the tired, aged and less than clean appearance of the hotel itself. In the conservatory, glass top tables sticky circles from previous drinks, cobwebs up in corners together with dead crane flies and crumbs under the sofas. In the main seating area, arms and head rests of the furniture were dirty and very shabby looking. Overall, the appearance of Ty Newydd, both inside and out looked tired, forlorn and rather uncared for, The exception to this was the gardens which obviously were tended by a committed and experienced gardener. Stay could have been so much better. A pity!!!!

Room Tip: Make sure you book the minimum of a de luxe room!!! Because of the country setting all rooms will b...

My boyfriend and I came here for a night away. The property is really lovely. The staff are very helpful and will look after you. The room was spacious and had a big en suite as well. Our only complaint was the bed was a wee bit small, but still very comfortable. Also, the restaurant is really nice. You will not leave hungry, the food was amazing. We would definitely come back again.

My husband and I had our wedding here on 25th August 2012 and we can't recommend it highly enough for a wedding venue! Right from the beginning when we were showed around the venue we knew that this was the place where we wanted to get married as Melanie the wedding coordinator and proprietor was so helpful, friendly and very professional. We loved the warm atmosphere it had, the country feel, friendliness, beautiful gardens, the view of the mountains, the lovely rooms...

On our wedding day myself and my husband didn't have to worry about one thing as the staff are brilliant, Melanie and Ed have things running so smoothly and are very organised. When we walked into the venue we were so happy with the way the room was laid out and the way that they had decorated the room. All of our guests stated it was the best wedding that they had been to and had very high praise for the venue! The food was of a very high standard, the service of the food was professional and speedy. Ed the proprietor and master of the ceremonies was very helpful and friendly and put a special touch on our wedding day by giving us a small gift. We felt that they do like get to know you and want to make it a special time for you and your guests.

The rooms were all of a high standard, our guests traveled a long way and and the majority of our guests stayed at the hotel and made a weekend out if it. They all had a lovely break and enjoyed the rooms.

We will be coming back for our anniversary without a doubt, thank you to all at Ty Newydd for such an amazing wedding day :)

After saying yes to my now husband's proposal of marriage the next best decision I made was to have the wedding at Ty Newydd. I would highly recomend any couple to book their wedding here. Some of the hotel is a little out of date. However when the main room is decorated for your wedding it looks like something out of a bridal magazine.

Melanie was brilliant in the run up to the big day - very well organised, and nothing was too much trouble. On the day itself, everything ran like clockwork leaving us free to enjoy ourselves. Ed was fantastic, making everyone feel very welcome.

All of our guests commented on how lovely the food was. In particular, the creme brulee dessert got gold stars from everyone!

We spent a lot of money and time organising the wedding, and really feel that it was worth every penny. We and our guests had a truly fantastic day, and we felt that we were treated like royalty.

Thanks Ed and Melanie!
