“Renovated room is excellent”
Reviewed September 18, 2010

Stayed one night 'en route' and booked into the newly renovated suite in the coach house. The care an attention to comfort and detail was excellent and it made our stay very relaxing. Dinner and breakfast were superb and the old country house surroundings were really nice.

We were married here in 1999 and the decor had not changed much since then. To be fair, there was a note in the room letting us know that work on updating the rooms was in progress. The hall itself is wonderful - other reviews describe it well. The ambience is warm and friendly and the staff went out of their way to help - plenty of effort, but attainment sometimes fell short: had to ask twice for toast at breakfast; no coffee in the coffee and then no milk. We took advantage of the exceptional value three night's b&b with dinner on two nights. Food couldn't have been better and loads of it (except for a very small breakfast kipper on a very large plate, which did not compare well with my wif'e's very full Welsh. Still, filled up on the toast when it arrived)

Stayed in a family room and was pleasantly surprised that this comprised of a good sized double room with a twin room via an adjoining door. The decor was very tasteful and they supplied a good selection of beverages in the room with additional supplies in the hall on the sideboard outside the room. We had a very hearty Welsh breakfast in the morning with a delicious home made fruit salad. Staff were extremely hard working, staying up late to serve drinks in the bar area and still being on hand in the morning to assist with the breakfast. The purpose of our stay was a family reunion which was very successful and made even more pleasant by the stay in this hotel. As someone who travels round the country on business, I found this hotel as good as, if not better, than some of the other boutique hotels I have stayed in.

Stayed one night with colleagues for a business conference.
Pros: Courteous service throughout; quiet and pleasant location; excellent breakfast cooked to order; good quality evening meal; comfortable beds and duvets, bright and airy restaurant; spacious rooms.
Cons: the rooms and bathrooms are in need of updating (something that the hotel proprietors are fully aware of and refer to in the welcome literature in the bedrooms); small and rather cramped lounge/bar area.
Overall: pleasant, attentive service and food quality makes up for below standard rooms. I would definately go back for a conference and overnight stay.

Lovely hotel, under new management. Everything is delightfully old and uneven (in a good way!). I slept like a log in my very pleasant and comfortable room. The food was good and the new owners are clearly working their socks off to show that things have changed in this hotel...and they clearly have.

It's a long time since I had a meal at Maesmawr, and knowing the previous standard, went there with trepidation. I was there to celebrate a family birthday and was hugely surprised. The food was exceptional, the best I have tasted in the Newtown area for many a year. The food was well presented, plenty of it, of good quality resonably priced and the service was very good. An immensely enjoyable birthday lunch.

We found the staff very helpful, friendly and polite.
The Hall itself is beautiful, a wonderfully restored building.
As a country retreat, our rooms were very comfortable, peaceful, picture perfect/dream like, with amazing views.
We had a evening meal which was also fantastic, great service and very good value.
Overall WE ALL said the whole experience was 11/10.
We plan to go back again, but will probably save it for a special occasion.
