The overall experience wasn't awful, it's just that at that price we would have got a lot more somewhere else.

We stayed 1 night at the Inchyra Spa Hotel when visiting friends in the area. At London prices of £160/night and 4 star rating we expected an above average hotel but our experience was average.

On the positive side the room was clean and recently refurbished (the hallways are not), and the better half very much enjoyed the Spa.

The negatives included the shower, which pulsated between hot and cold water, and the breakfast which was supposed to be cooked to order but had clearly been kept warm for some time. Surprisingly for a hotel which tries to attract conferences internet was not free, but available at £10/day through a third party. Check-in took its time as the hotel charges £3 for using a credit card, which means customers and staff spend time counting cash instead.

I have just returned from a fab day at the inchyra grange spa with my mum. We had the rasul mud treatment lunch and use of facilities it was wonderful all staff we encountered were courteous. The treatment was lovely and our skin feels fab. The pool and facilities are spotless and have been beautifully revamped since previous visits. The lunch was delicious too. Will definitely be returning thanks for a brilliant day! :)

We chose Inchyra as our out-of-city accommodation for the Edinburgh Festival thereby avoiding the exhorbitant city centre charges for hotels. It was a good decision as Polmont train station was only a few minutes away by car, there was free parking in the station car park and four trains an hour into Waverley only 25 minutes away.

The hotel has excellent new leisure facilities - gym, pool and spa - and the usual wide range of options at breakfast that is typical of the Macdonald hotel chain. The rooms were fine - albeit with a rather dark and unimaginative décor despite having recently been refurbished. Food overall was good without being exceptional although the range of options at breakfast was impressive. The staff were helpful.

However we had a rather mixed experience on some of the details that you would expect a 4star hotel to get right without us having to chase them.

Our first room had water damage on a carpet, probably from a bathroom leak and the bathroom door didn't close so we were moved.
On our first bar snack just after arrival, I was given a chicken caesar salad without the chicken and my wife was served a feta cheese Greek salad with cheddar cheese (because they didn't have any feta).
At breakfast on the following morning we asked for gluten free bread that they were unable to supply and it took till day 3 for the hotel to provide any. (The irony to this was we had spent a night in each of two Inns on our journey up to Scotland, both of which had no trouble in providing gluten free bread).
The final insult was that WIFI was a 'paid for' service and not free as you would expect in 4star accommodation.

Whilst we were pleased to have chosen the hotel for its convenient location, when you are staying at a 4star hotel you should expect better on the detail especially given the prices they charge for the food that is actually no better than a good restaurant but more pricey.

Room Tip: Don't expect a room with a view. There are very few of them.

I stayed 2 nights with my husband and 5 year old for a family wedding. We had a family sized room with a massive bed for us and a single camp bed for my little girl. The room was spotless although it was stifling hot with no air con and no way to open the window further. Was pleasantly surprised to find a fridge in the room. Ordered breakfast in the room both mornings which was delivered right on time and really tasty. I only had the food at the wedding reception so cannot comment on the restaurant food. There are a few pubs and a harvester nearby which we ate in one night. Only a short taxi ride to Polmont train station. Overall the hotel is nice, would return in the future.

It has been some years since we stayed at the Inchyra. At that time the many of the staff were inattentive with a couldn't careless attitude. Service was lacking, the food was average and the hotel was nothing special. Had I rated it then it would have scraped in at a 3 star but .... read on!

We had some business in the area and I contemplated staying at the Forest HIlls near Aberfoyle and travel the extra distance but noticed that the Inchyra had undergone a mulit-million pound over haul so decided to give it another try and are we glad we did.

The money has been well spent with a brand new bar, restaurant and spa. The room we stayed in had been completely refurbished with a fantastic bathroom (great shower), very comfortable bed and all the usual amenities.

I arrived a bit before normal check in as I had booked a spa treatment but Luksz on reception sent one of the housekeeping team especially to see if our room was ready. As it turns out it was & I was in and off to my treatment. top massage & facial from Nicola and the 90 minutes was over too soon. The pool, sauna and steam room were top quality.

Later in the bar the lovely lass in the bar (Claire) suggested my wife try a new cocktail with the offer that if she didn't like it we could give it back (it wasn't returned :-) ). The meal was fantastic (good meals seem to be the speciality at Macdonald hotels these days). All the staff were friendly and attentive and nothing was too much trouble. Claire in the bar even took a drink through to my wife who had gone to the spa for a treatment.

Overall it seemed like a different hotel to the one we stayed in a few years ago - top marks to all the aforementioned staff, a credit to Macdonald Hotels - this is how it should be. I'm looking forward to going back for a longer stay.

Room Tip: All rooms refurbished

For business reason I went to this hotel. The hotel itself looks nice as well as the spa. Nevertheless inside the room it was pretty hot, like 25 degrees, without any possibility to make use of an airco or fan or open the window more widely. Despite requesting for several times for a fan or another room, I got told that this was not possible. And that it is rarely warm in Scotland, so the couldn't do anyting.

Considering the price, you would have expected some type of assist. Too bad because the hotel and restaurant itself looks nice, but if you cannot sleep then it is not worth it.

I had the pleasure of spending an overnight break in this hotel as a 50th birthday present from my friends. From start to finish the whole experience was fantastic. Friendly staff, clean, comfortable room, terrific food...fillet steak to die for! and the spa treatments were excellent. The hotel pool is a good size and not too deep. The hotel was quiet at night, which I appreciated, although realise some people like entertainment. One small niggle...my friend's cooked breakfast was cold, but the other three cooked breakfasts were fine. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to others looking for a wee break away.
