“Lovely B&B , alittle to rural and maybe little O.T.T”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 1, 2013

Me and my boyfriend stayed for one night in this b&b in May. We picked it as it was near boyfriends work [ in process of moving] and offered an apartment which gave us more space.

Good points: The hostess is very friendly and welcoming - offered us scones and tea when we arrived though we were going out then so she left on kitchen table. Apartment was very clean and tidy and came with everything you needed.

Bad points: The hostess is alittle OTT - When we got out of car to open door of apartment we seen two lovely dogs and within 2 sec the host was out explaining everything to us which at near 10pm we didn't really need. At breakfast we were running late and we just wanted two boiled eggs with the selection of fruit she provided - she kept on saying would we like anything more which is normally lovely if someone asks us once but Elizabeth asked us 5times. We also wanted boiled egg and she couldn't find holders which wasn't an issue so we opted for poached eggs but again she kept asking us was it ok. Poached egg was nice and due to early morning I left abit of mine but host rudely said 'oh you obviously didn't enjoy' - I did ! I didn't feel like I really needed to explain myself. I also found at £80 it is rather expensive for a place in the middle of nowhere.

This place is lovely and host is nice but I would say tone down on asking people do they like/enjoy. This place is better suited to a relaxing weekend stay opposed to mid week quick stay.

Room Tip: Apartment is better to pay that extra £20 .

I am so sorry that you did not enjoy your stay as much as I would have hoped. I do apologise if you thought I was being rude re the comment over the egg, I was merely concerned that you had not enjoyed your second choice of breakfast.
I agree our location is rural but I feel this gives us the advantage of peace and quiet whilst only 3 miles from the International airport and convenient to most major road networks ensuring the majority of N.I. is easily accessible. This makes us a perfect base for those staying for business or pleasure – I do admit to bias!
On the issue of value for money – the Hayloft is furnished for self-catering but with the added benefit of B&B and we use Egyptian cotton bedding and towels. Our full breakfast is prepared using our own free range eggs, and home reared pork products and local produce whenever possible. As you know I am happy to cater for those with specific dietary requirements with advance notice. I feel that the price is good value. All this was explained to you when you booked and you were offered one of the B&B rooms in the house at a lower rate.

Elizabeth welcomes you in her lounge with a cuppa and cakes; breakfast is outstanding with one of the best choices we 've ever had in Northern ireland! The view over the lake is fantastic and the area quite peaceful although the airport is 10 minutes away!

We stayed for a night on the 4th of May at Elizabeth's beautiful home. It was such a treat to be greeted after a stressful after work flight with a pot of tea and homemade cake on arrival, even though we arrived later in the evening nothing was too much trouble and Elizabeth gave us lots of information about places to see in the area and tips for the weekend.
The room was gorgeous (as was the rest of the house) with a lovely view, and very comfortable, the bed was like sleeping on a cloud and so quiet!
Breakfast was incredible, homemade damson and apple jam, fresh fruit, homemade bread and a delicious fry up.
The surrounding area is very peaceful and we had a lovely walk before setting off. We were very reluctant to leave and hope to come back again sometime. Thank you for such a lovely stay!

We stayed at Bay Cottage on May 5th for only one night. We now wish it could have been longer. Mrs McBride is a fantastic hostess. We were welcomed with friendly chat, tea and home made cake. We had pre-booked an evening meal - which was a superb three course feast and the best value for money we had encountered during our week-long trip to Ireland Our room was spacious and very comfortable. Our breakfast was, once again superb. Thank you Mrs McBride for making our first trip to your part of Northern Ireland so enjoyable.

From the moment we arrived we were made very welcome by Elizabeth for whom nothing was too much trouble. Picked up at the airport fed what has to be the best breakfast anywhere. Everything locally produced and prepared with such care. Baked plums for breakfast- wow! The bed has to be the most comfortable ever so much so we had to ask the make of the mattress. We loved it so much we went back again 2 days later. Go and enjoy this wonderful establishment

We had three wonderful nights at Bay Cottage last week and were very happy to be there. Elizabeth and Norman are very welcoming hosts and their home is a lovely mix of furniture and paintings.
Our room was beautiful with a view over the lough which is right on their doorstep, we would never have known there was an airport nearby if we hadn't flown in to it! One of the nicest things was that Elizabeth came to pick us up from the airport (at midnight!) and took us back which of course saved huge taxi fares.
Elizabeth's breakfasts were fantastic and her home made bread and cakes made the whole experience even nicer.
Thanks for having us and we'll definitely come back

Bay Cottage is the perfect place to stay when exploring County Antrim and Belfast. It is close to the international airport but is in a most peaceful location on the shores Lough Neagh. I stayed in the room overlooking the lough and enjoyed misty sunrises from the window. Elizabeth is a marvellous hostess. Her breakfasts set you up for a full day's sightseeing and her evening meals are very substantial! Produce is locally sourced where possible and everything, including the bread and the jam, is home cooked and very tasty. The two guest bedrooms are beautifully furnished with particularly "well-plumped" pillows that I loved. There are tea/coffee making facilities in the room, and everywhere is warm, comfortable and clean. I stayed there on the recommendation of a family friend and will definitely return!

Thank you for your comments. I am glad you enjoyed yourself, and that you will return. There is so much to see in N.I, that you need several days. The frosty mornings are adding to our sunrises at the moment. Best wishes.
