I stayed here with a group of friends for a night. I have to say that some of the negative reviews left by others are unjustified.

The evening meal we were given (T Bone steak) was fantastic, and the included breakfast was absolutely outstanding.

Yes, the hotel has areas where improvement would be beneficial, but this appears to be in hand and on going.
Had to laugh at the reviewer that stated they got a poor pint of lager..... that's what you get for drinking lager in a hotel which has one of the largest whisky choices anywhere on the planet!

The hotel owner told us just to call to be let in when we got back from a function we attended - this happened to be around 3am, but was still no problem for him. Can't fault that kind of service, and will definitely keep this as an option for a return visit.

I arrived in it terrible autumn weather to learn more about whisky and whisky making. I was the only guest in the hotel, and poor John and Frances were working very hard at renovation.
I was made to feel totally welcome, and had a very enjoyable and comfortable stay with them.
John is incredibly knowledgeable about whisky, and was very kind in helping me to make some, and in passing on some of his knowledge.
The situation is absolutely idyllic.
I look forward to going back, and meeting my excellent hosts again.

Room Tip: lovely sea views from the front

As the other reviewer put. This is the worst hotel i have been too and i only stayed 20 mins.On arrival we where met by a lady who could have been the cleaner or the owner she was covered in hair. But i thought ok and was shown to our room, which was ok.I then went to the bar and ordered 2 pints of lager . Mine tasted of cleaning fluid and my brothers had black bits floating in it. I looked around the conservatory type room ,it was filthy and stuff everywhere, the plant which was growing there was held up wires from every bit of the roof, it was like a triffid. I couldnt face thinking about what the kitchen was like or breakfast, so we just left. On arrival home the rest of the payment [after paying a deposit] had been taken fom bank . CHEERS

Stayed here while working and i can honestly say it is the worst hotel i have ever stayed in. Room was freezing, toilet was blocked, hotel had a terrible smell, couple who owned the hotel were very very rude. The only good thing about this stay was that the job got cancelled and i only had to stay 1 night instead of 4!

We were looking forward to a nice cosy night in a hotel after two rainy, cold nights camping. The hotel smells of wet dog, the room was perishing and had a very strange musty, damp smell. There was no key for the door. Really a very bad representation of Scottish hospitality. I have no idea why people think this is a good way to run a business...truly awful! I suggest the wigwams at The Sands Campsite... infinitely superior class of accommodation.
