With Lymington library shut for renovation my wife and I are picking up books in Milford on Sea. Having done the library trip - and feeling peckish we thought we would see whether there was a table at La Perle for lunch.
We each had the daily one course special + glass of wine for £13.95. My wife had the Bavette, "blue" . I had the confit Duck leg (with a bit of extra gravy). Each came with exactly the right amount of well cooked vegetables.
We each had a glass of the house Merlot. Then we followed it with dessert and coffee.
I had a tart Tatin my wife had a vacherin - which if we have to be hypercritical might have had a smidge too much gelatine in it. But there were crunchy textures with the vacherin and with the caramel apple ice cream that went with the Tatin. Clever cooking.
The food was very good. The wine was very good. The service was excellent although I got a decaf Americano instead of decaf espresso. Our waitress was concerned to be absolutely sure that we knew that the bavette would be a slightly tough cut of meat (but tasty). We are both Francophone and Francophile so very aware of the French cuisine. But nice to be asked.
Some nice touches - the speciality bread which comes with the meal was with carrot and cumin - quite delicious. The dark chocolate fondant bon-bons that came with the coffee equally so.
For a spur of the moment lunch it was quite excellent.
