We stayed at this hotel on a three night for two deal in September we had a lovely room in the newly refurbished wing which was lovely - spacious and extremely comfortable. When we looked at this hotel initially we were a little concerned about the negative reviews at the time, in particular reviews from guests who were booked into this hotel during wedding events! Two weddings had taken place during the week prior to our visit. So when we arrived we did see evidence in the garden and conservatory where staff hadn't fully cleared up following the two events. However, when this was pointed out the staff rectified the situation dry quickly. On a positive note and they were many at this hotel. The food was excellent, staff very helpful and actually we had the most enjoyable and memorable stay in this lovely old house in a beautiful part of the country. We will be back!!!

Room Tip: This is a wedding event venue, check if a wedding is likely to be taking place during your visit ! Also the newly refurbished wing is lovely if you are given a choice!!

My partner and I chose this hotel for a last minute get away. Its in a very easy place to find, and the drive up through the trees is lovely. Also very well situated to get into the forest as its about 10 minutes drive from Lyndhurst, We were greeted by a very friendly receptionist, very efficient. We had booked a Crown Room after reading reviews about small rooms; however our room was small, the four poster was small and the room was very cold when we arrived. The ensuite was a good size, but as we later found out the shower was really pathetic. However all clean and tiny. By the evening, we realised the reason the room was so cold was because the radiator was broken, and once we had reported it we had a portable one brought to our room within 10 minutes. Dinner was good quality and we had a very good waitress. The hotel has a lovely lounge with an open fire and this was a great place to sit after dinner with a drink. On the second day, my partner had booked a massage in the room, the therapist arrived promptly, was very friendly and did a good job.
I just want to write a note about weddings now. My partner and I came to get away from our hectic lives in London. Increasingly when we go away for the weekend we find there are weddings in the hotels we stay at. It does feel as if these weddings take over the hotels at the expense of the other guest's peace. For example, the wedding reception room was right next to the lounge and we could clearly hear the dj and music, and people were often walking through the lounge to get to the toilets. Eventually we felt we had to retreat to our room just to escape the noise.
We would return to this hotel again, but perhaps will do so during the week when its less likely a wedding is taking place. It was very good hotel.

My partner and I booked a special 3 for 2 nights deal including B&B and Dinner. We had stayed before, so were aware of the excellent food served.

We arrived only to be disappointed by the poor quality and small size of bedroom. It was part of the deal we were later told. We tried for an upgrade but half-term meant a full hotel. After resigning ourselves to a pokey abode, whilst having coffee in the lounge after a splendid dinner, the heavens opened outside - a downpour to build an Ark for. Suddenly, no more than 2 yards from our seats, there was a dripping sound and water poured through the lighting strip above. A handyman was immediately called. We were told only one room was affected. It just so happened our one was next door. Retiring to this room at around 11.30pm, we were greeted with wet bedding, wet carpet and wet everything including a computer which was miraculously still working after its shower.

We were shown to another room which stank like a glue factory (no wonder it was empty!) So, in desperation, the young and helpful new receptionist gave us the best room in the hotel - a 'Deluxe Crown' - empty, no doubt, because of its high price.

The following day we were given this room, as compliments of the hotel, for the remainder of our stay. In fact, a combination of the special 3 night stay and this upgrade saved us near-on £400. So not only a fantastic deal but amazing value for money.

Is there a moral to this story? I'll leave it up to you to think of one.

Room Tip: Always ask for a room upgrade - you never know your luck - especially if you drop a hint that you're a regular 'Tripadvisor' reviewer.

excellent location just off M27 and on the edge of the forest.
We asked for a quiet room following reviews of weddings and had room 49, perfect on the top floor and overlooking the drive, well away from the wedding that was no trouble at all, thankyou.
Breakfast excellent first day, awful second day, I think they were very rushed and different waiting staff.
We didn't eat in as the main menu was not to our taste and the bar menu whilst fine, there was no room to eat as it is tiny. Found an excellent pub in Minstead just 10 mins away.
Overall a good weekend and we would stay again as long as room 49 gets a firmer bed, very saggy !!

On arriving we were greeted by a very friendly and efficient receptionist who made us feel very welcome in spite of being in the middle of a wedding reception. The hotel has been recently refurbished from top to bottom, the smell of paint still lingering slightly. The bedroom was adequate and the breakfast better than average. Very dog friendly. Not quite as good as another hotel nearby which also has lodge in its title where we stayed last year.

Room Tip: Keep away from the front of the hotel as when the staff arrive in the morning, the sound of crunching gravel is a good alarm clock.
