“Excellent stay in the country”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 17, 2013

I stayed here with a group for two nights and had a very enjoyable stay. The estate is in the country and the rooms are spread out through the property. The staff is excellent and the time we spent eating here was well worth it. The breakfasts are excellent in particular. It was quite a walk to my room and I had to go through two exterior courtyards but the room was spacious and quiet. Free internet is quite good and the room was large and quiet. There was no thermostat in my room and it was a little warm but I cracked a window. The grounds are quite stunning and the bar area is very comfortable with many large seating areas with great service. It was truly a great experience and I would love to come here in summer!

This Hotel is just fantastic. From the minute that we walked into the grand reception area to the moment we left the service was just the best. We were staying for just one night and were lucky enough to be upgraded to a suite in the main house. When my wife and i walked into the room we were just stunned by the size and elegance of the decor. In the room, everything was large, including the bed which sat along side a very nice lounge area with a dining table which was dressed with fresh fruit, this we thought was a nice touch. But not quite as nice as the handmade chocolates on the coffee table.
We were at the hotel for a friends birthday and had booked dinner for that evening. We had pre dinner drinks in the lounge. The staff in the lounge were excellent. we were then shown to our table and served a wonderful dinner and again the service was excellent.
Breakfast was very good and when we entered the waiter remembered our room numbers from the night before, very professional. Breakfast was followed by a walk around the gardens, which i'm sure would be stunning in the summer.
We will be back very soon to Tylney hall for another wonderful experience.

Our annual stay at Tylney Hall to celebrate our anniversary exceeded our expectations and completely lived up to our previous experiences. Friendly and attentive staff, a great room and a lovely festive menu made our stay perfect. We will be back next year.

Room Tip: We prefer the main building to the annex where we have also stayed. All the rooms are lovely however...

Although we never stayed here, we thought we might like to and so incorporated a 'stop off for light lunch' to check the place out. It is indeed a beautiful and relaxing place to stay. On a cold December day the large lounge area with welcoming grand open fire beckoned us to unwind. Looking for something not too pricey on the lunch menu, we opted for sharing a steak baguette and chips. At £18.50 we thought it must be delicious. The wine ordered was exquisite but the steak baguette and fries ? an embarrassment for any cook. Soggy lettuce with mayo caused the bottom of the baguette to be cold and wet. The chips were not hot or properly cooked. The steak was ok but we were underwhelmed. The bill was quickly adjusted after our complaint with apologies. It shouldn't have been let out of the kitchen though. Not at all in keeping with the excellent staff and relaxing surroundings.

Thank you for your review that I was obviously disappointed to read and I would firstly like to offer my apologies for the standard of steak baguette that you received.
This is one of the most popular dishes from our Lounge menu and one that receives normally very positive feedback.I would like to suggest that this may have been a one-off situation, but do understand that this is certainly not an excuse.
Your review has been brought to the attention of our Head Chef.
Thank you for the positive comments concerning the staff and surroundings and I am very glad to hear that your account was suitably adjusted.

Spent an evening here as part of a college reunion. Lovely grounds, wonderful staff however the room was stifling hot throughout the whole time and during sleeping hours with no way of turning the radiator off as the thermostatic valve was disabled. A poor nights sleep resulted. Speaking to other guests this seems to be a problem in many other rooms. The meal was OK but the food was overcooked and nothing special, helpings small with no wow factor. Was it worth the price - no. We have stayed and eaten at many other cheaper and superior places. It is charging top London prices for 3 star food and accommodation.

Room Tip: Courtyard views across the lakes are great as are the main rooms over the fields.

Thank you for your recent review that I was obviously disappointed to read. I am sorry to learn that the radiator valve was not working correctly in your bedroom and that we failed to exceed your expectations regarding the food standard. These comments will be followed through and I thank you for taking time to feed back on these points.
I am glad to learn however that you found the grounds to be lovely and also described our staff as wonderful.
Thank you once again for the constructive nature of your comments.

Tylney hall is always a relaxing place to stay, with comfortable surroundings a nice service and a good bar for a quiet nightcap. The only thing I would improve is the breakfast, which I always find a little over formal.
Will continual to use the hotel as overall it is very good.

For my 60 years anniversary I invited my whole family to Tylney Hall over the weekend as we wanted to experience a high class countryside weekend.
The reviews from Tripadvisor ranked it very high. I many cases Tylney Hall met our expectations, but there were also some downsides.Staying there is not cheap so the service needs to be on a very high standard.
The best at the hotel is the rooms and the environment. The rooms are spacious, well equiped, well cleaned and exactly what you expect. No air condition, though but when we visited, in the middle of November, it was no problem. The heat was on full speed.
The environment, the park and the sourrounding is impressive. Here we could spent many hours walking around in the park. There is also a nearby golfcourse that we didn't have time to test.
When we arrived and also when having afternoon tea we were seated in the lounge, and that was the very best experience. The service was top-class and the food and the drinks was excellent. Having tried the afternoon tea the Savoy in London some years ago I thought this was not far away from that experience - Well-done!
However it seems like their are different territories or silos within the hotel and they are not matching to fully extent. The main event during our stay, the dinner at the Oak room, ended not up to our expectations. Our impression was that they had to much to do, the staff had not the same service skill that we found in the lounge bar. Even it was in the middle of November they still had their "Summer a la carte meny" and not changed for more than six months.
We hade the Scallops as appetiser and then the Chateau-briand as main course and finally the english cheese as dessert. The scallops were the best part, the meat good but to much standard and the cheese very good. The service I would rate as medioker, not attentaive as expected. We ran out of water and no one cared until we asked, We ordered some dessert wine but that was forgotten.
During breakfast which was served in the Oak room we found some of the staff from the evening, and the service level was again somewhat irregular, However the food served at breakfast was excellent, nothing missed and everything tasted really good.
To summarize: A very good weekend, but compared to the prize level it needs to improve some parts if they want to meet all our expectations.
Oh I forgot - The kids (and their parenst) loved the bear, the bird feed and the attention made to them.

Thank you for your detailed feedback that I am grateful to receive and for taking the time to pass on your comments.
Firstly thank you for your positive remarks concerning the spacious bedrooms and that you found these to be well cleaned and well equipped.
It is also pleasing to know that you enjoyed our gardens and that you received excellent service in the lounge / bar area for afternoon tea.
I am sorry that the service did not match your expectations in the restaurant and your feedback has been duly noted, but I would add that the seasonal menu has now been changed.
Thank you once again for taking time to visit TripAdvisor and for the constructive nature of your comments, which will be shared with the appropriate members of management to take on board the appropriate improvements.

Kind regards
