“Lovely anniversary stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 3, 2013

I totally agree with the previous review. We've just spent 2 fantastic nights here and were so comfortable. Every member of staff was superb and we enjoyed relaxing in our very spacious Orangery suite. This was a much appreciated upgrade. The downstairs sitting area was a huge bonus although very cold despite the radiator being on full. The upstairs bedroom was very warm and cosy and I made full use of the jacuzzi bath, Molton Brown toiletries & ample supply of good quality towels. Yes, the spa area is in need of updating and a little disappointing compared with the sister hotel, Luton Hoo. A warmer & larger spa bath is needed, and larger changing rooms but unsure this can be achieved with the space available. I especially enjoyed the pianist at dinner times. A little expensive but for a special treat I would highly recommend this hotel. Thank you Mr Ashton & all your staff. I am pleased that I took up a second year's Elite Privilege membership.

A beautiful hotel with lovely grounds, the 4* star rating dosen't do it justice. Great staff, very traditional, without being stuffy.Sort of place you can spend a romantic and relaxing weekend. The Spa facilities are a little disapointing and dated, but otherwise one of my favourite places.

Room Tip: Wide variety of rooms, main build is very nice and also so very nice garden suites, some overlooking...

So often I book a trip to a property I have not visited before and am let down big time by the rooms, property based on the great photos on their web site. Tylney Hall as the opposite--their web site does not truly do them justice. I felt good about the property based on my pre-arrival contact as I tried to select a room for our 20th anniversary English Road trip. We wanted a home base for travel to Winchester, Jane Austen's cottage, Highclere Castle etc and Tylney seemed perfect. They happily upgraded the room, gave us three nights for the cost of two--and offered an excellent rate that included full breakfast and dinner. It is a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World so make sure you are a member to get benefits. We arrived very late--after midnight--after our daytripper flight over and were concerned that this was a rough time for this kind of property in terms of staff on duty. Not the case--they were on duty--carried up our bags, walked us through our beautiful Executive room in the old stables and even did the near impossible--provided perfect room service that late at night! The Executive Room was bright and cheerful and loaded with character--just what we wanted--with a very nice bathroom. No air conditioning meant it got warm that English summer--but the fans they brought helped. The public rooms in the hotel have a grandeur of days gone by--beyond beautiful--more like a movie set come to life. And you would think this would mean "stuffy" service--quite the opposite--everyone was warm, friendly, personable, genuine and could not do enough. Walking the grounds is an experience--you could be in a Jane Austen novel. A must. And dining was superlative--beautiful room--excellent food--and again warm service. Unlike in North America, at Tylney you go early to the reception rooms for a pre-dinner drink and free hors d'oeuvres and you are brought your menu to pre-order your meals before being seated in the restaurant. It actually makes the dining experience much more relaxing. So--if you are heading to England, want to see Highclere (Downton Abbey) or just want a perfect getaway--Tylney Hall is it!

Room Tip: The rooms and the stables are quiet, and provide excellent privacy. Make sure you walk the stunning...

Beautifully served traditional afternoon tea in the lounge, comfy sofa's, low coffee table's, roaring log fire, lovely views, impecable and friendly service. Gluten free open sandwiches and cakes were nice though would have liked something more fancy than sponge cake with a bit of buttercream on top, and the "bread" was not the most pleasant gluten free I have tried, they needed alot of tea to wash them down...the tea was served in silver teapots along with hot water pot, gorgeous cups & saucers made all the difference, the scones and fresh cream were delish both regular & GF - the regular pastries my friends had looked & apparently tasted fantastic and the waiter provided cake boxes for anything not consumed.

We had a wonderful weekend break celebrating family birthdays in a beautiful setting with exceptional service. All the staff were very friendly and extremely helpful. We felt very welcome. Our suite was enormous with very comfortable four poster bed and big spacious bathroom with separate shower and double basins. Everything was immaculately clean. Tea and coffee facilities were great with lots of choice as well as fruit. Dinner was excellently presented and all courses very tasty. We were thrilled to have our desserts served with birthday decoration - a lovely touch for our celebration meal. We were lucky to have good weather and were able to enjoy the extensive attractive grounds. An extra surprise was the gift of a massage and pedicure in the spa. This was a very enjoyable professional experience. Altogether a wonderful relaxing weekend.

Just had a very nice night away with my wife (managed to offload the kids for 1 night!) at Tylney Hall and we were both impressed with the service and standards in the hotel.

If you book i don't think you will be disappointed, its set in stunning grounds, the welcome was warm and the room was lovely. We used the pool and spa facilities which were nice without being outstanding. The pool could have been warmer, and its a shame the pool and the spa are not joined to save changing from one to the other but not a deal breaker!

The day we were there, there was a wedding party which took over the bar meaning we couldn't get a drink without being forced out on to the terrace which is fine in the summer but when its 2c and snowing is not ideal but the staff tried their best to accommodate us.

The restaurant is very good, classic, old school, oak paneled, man on piano sort of thing but we like that once in a while, the food and service were both excellent. Just a shame they have relaxed the dress code so much, it states jacket or tie but there was a guy in there in jeans, polo shirt and trainers although he was the only one so i suspect he felt quite awkward (at least i hope he did!)

We have stayed at the sister hotel Ashdown Park a couple of times, they are very similar, on balance I prefer Ashdown, the pool is nicer, bigger & warmer, the gym/spa is better but aside from the pool/spa there's not much in it.

Book and enjoy!

Having booked an overnight stay at Tylney Hall for a leaving venue for a group of our closest friends, we were overwhelmed by the attention to detail the staff gave during our stay. Everything from the reception on our arrival through to our departure the following day, we were treated exceptionally, being afforded time to enjoy the ambient surroundings.
Tylney Hall offers fantastic facilities and a menu to suit and comes highly recommended as a weekend retreat to more than reinvigorate you in the tranquil country surroundings.
