“Slightly better than average budget chain Hotel.”
Reviewed January 4, 2012

We stayed at the Village, Wirral for one night in November 2011 and as we had only paid £69, didn't expect the earth - especially with breakfast included (which was actually better than our evening meal!).

The outward appearance of the hotel is cosy and inviting which probably gives it the edge over some of the other budget chains. We found the lobby and other public areas to be welcoming with well trained staff who were pleased to help us in any way. Adjacent to reception is a lively sports bar serving various bar snacks, although we opted for the 'Buca di Beppo' Italian a la carte, which despite the fanciful image, turned out to be rather disappointing.
Our room was comfortable and functional with TV, a small safe, Tea & Coffee making facilities and free Wi Fi. The bathroom, although clean, looked a little fatigued with several cracks around the walls and various signs of wear.
Other facilities include a Spa and fitness club with pool although we didn't have time to try these. There are also some function rooms and the Hotel seems to run entertainment nights which give a busy feel to this place.

Bearing in mind that this is graded as a 3.5 star hotel, we found it to be adequate for our needs - although we would probably look elsewhere to eat if we ever returned to the area.

Room Tip: Ask for a refurbished room in a quiet area

We had been looking forward to staying in the Village hotel as it looked like a great place to stay. We were very disappointed. The walls must be incredibly thin as it was very noisy and we were unable to sleep. The room was over heated and there didn't seem to be a way of turning it off. The breakfast was mediocre and the hot buffet barely warm. This is the first time we have stayed in a Village Hotel and we have found ourselves put off staying in one of their hotels again.

I stayed at the Village hotel for business trip. The hotel was clean, the staff were friendly and helpful and the room that I was in was spacious and warm. Everything that I needed.

As I was travelling alone on business I booked myself into the spa. The sauna and steam room were clean and it was a very pleasant experience. I booked to have a facial and the therapist was very good. One of the best facials I have received. She was helpful and gave advice on skincare (advise I have taken) and made me feel totally relaxed.

There was football on in the bar so I was a little self concious about eating alone. I ordered a meal and then parked myself into a corner table with a book. The bar and waiting staff were excellent and the waitress kept coming over to check on me and see if I needed anything.

Breakfast was great. Again the waiting staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was plentiful and not overcooked, which you can sometimes get with a buffet.

All in all this was one of the better Village hotels that I have stayed in and I would certainly recommend this hotel.

Have stayed at this hotel a few times before and have always been happy with it as a mediocre place to stay whilst visiting relatives. However it has been a couple of years since our last visit and were surprised and disappointed on arrival this time.
The hotel entrance and corridors are looking very shabby, with dirty carpets throughout. There is an overwhelming need for complete refurbishment of the whole hotel!
The room we were initially given was out dated in decor, and desperate for a make over. There were chunks of plaster missing out of the walls, the furniture was tatty and again grubby carpets, a sad miserable room.
After complaining we were give a supposed upgrade! The decor of this room was an improvement despite missing light bulbs and unfortunately having a disabled bathroom. For some reason this hotel thinks that if you are disabled you only need a tiny basin with no where to place toiletries and any family staying with you do not deserve a bath! Do facilities for disabled people need to be so basic? plus this bathroom stank of rotting cabbages, presumably a problem with the drains.
As it was pretty late by this time we shut the bathroom door to eliminate the smell in the bedroom and crawled into bed. Unfortunately the marquee hosting the hotels Christmas party events for the festive season was right outside our room. We had been assured by the receptionist that the noise from this was minimal and they had never had any complaints and there were no events planned for the following night. Lies lies lies the noise was very very loud and impossible to ignore going on until 1pm.
The next day we complained again! and were assured again that there where no events planned for that night. We returned to the room after a day spent with relatives to find yet another party in full swing in the marquee just as loud as the previous night! although in fairness the light bulbs had been replaced and some lemon cleaner which quickly faded had clearly been put down the drain to mask the unpleasant smell.
One last point since our last visit the hotel restaurant has had what I can only describe as a make-under, the decor is bizarre and breakfast basic.
We will needless to say not be using this hotel or any other in the chain again.

Room Tip: Check in early, upgrade, specifically request not to be given a room with disabled bathroom, better...

Check was good , staff were nice and friendly , good coffee shop in reception and victory bar was ok but big screen tvs are not worth the intrusion. The Room was in need of an overahul furniture was scratched woth hole where older equipment had been placed and was now gone ensuit was ok but shower was poor. shower head had been replaced with a unit which did not fitthe holder so would not direct the water and could not get very much hot water to shower My Colleague said the same of his room. Looks lie they are making the movey but not reinvesting in the rooms. Food in the bar was ok just a littel slow to deliver
