“Lovely Staff Helped us Celebrate a Special Occasion”
Reviewed August 17, 2013

My sister booked a lunchtime meal at the Devon Doorway to celebrate my parents both turning 60 and being married for 40 years. The staff were very helpful on the telephone and promised to have a cake brought out with the coffees at the end.

When we arrived there was also a lovely card on the table thanking us for choosing the Devon Doorway for our celebrations and Mum and Dad were both given a glass of bubbly.

All the staff on duty made us feel special. The waitress that served us (a young blonde girl - I think her name was Morgan?) was really lovely and gave us lots of attention throughout the whole meal.

We ordered a few different dishes including a salmon salad and a blue cheese burger. Mum really enjoyed the pudding as well! Everything was very fresh and the service was impeccable. Staff also came over at various points to congratulate Mum and Dad. At the end of the meal they brought out the cake and everybody sang Happy Birthday which was a big surprise to Mum and Dad.

The Devon Doorway is also such a pretty little place inside that it offered an air of intimacy for this special occasion. Thank you so much, we will be back!

“Fixed price menu”
Reviewed August 10, 2013

We had a fixed price menu for four adults before going to the theatre which was a let down. Three of us had pizza which was lacking in topping and only Luke warm the fourth person had chicken sandwich which was also Luke warm . We found the deserts to be very uninspiring . Our second round of drinks took about twenty minutes to arrive . The only good thing was that the staff were pleasant but a poor manager we will not be returning.

“What a let down”
Reviewed August 3, 2013

We visited the devon doorway on Saturday 2/8/13 with my mum in law and my husband and were expecting to have a nice evening as we have done in the past. Not at all, we waited to be seated for about five minutes and then the manager of the restaurant came over to seat us but the phone went and instead of asking whoever was on the line to hold while she took us to our table, she proceeded to carry on the conversation with whoever was on the phone going into the garden to carry on the phone conversation leaving the three of us waiting to go to the table! We asked if the speaker by us could be turned down because it wasn't playing any music just a loud crackling noise. That didn't happen. We waited twenty five minutes for our drinks after ordering them , my husband had to ask a waitress had we been forgotten because we waited forty minutes for our starters, which came miraculously about two minutes after we complained. They were awful as they had obviously been sitting waiting in the kitchen. Asparagus with hollandaise which had separated and was cold ! The asparagus was woody and parts of it couldn't even be cut with a knife! When we got the main we were asked if we wanted anything else i just asked for salt and pepper, that never appeared.
It just got worse throughout the evening and only that it was a treat for my husband and I from my mum in law we would have walked out well before it got to this point. The dessert was meant to be Eton mess rhubarb and custard, no meringue, no rhubarb and just a lot of cream and two strawberries cut in half. Awful. To top it off when the waitress came with the card reader she said to my mum in law "oh that's the button there for leaving a tip"! Somehow I don't think so. It was appalling.

“Excellent ....”
Reviewed July 31, 2013

Was there on Sunday 28th for a Birthday lunch. The service and food were excellent, especially from our server named Georgie. When they found out it was my Birthday I was offered a glass of Prosecco, which was a nice touch. Overall, nice place to eat or just have a drink.

“First visit, will definitely be back, first class food and service.”
Reviewed July 28, 2013

I booked a table for a party of 20 for my Mum's 75th birthday party. She had driven past this place so many times and had always said she would love to go one day. Well despite only booking 2 days before, everything went perfectly. Our table was ready for us when we arrived, the staff were all very friendly, smiley and helpful. The food was delicious, and all served at the same time, even though we were such a large group and had ordered so many different meals. The food itself is very good, it tastes really fresh and is presented beautifully. The menu has a huge choice so caters for everyone. It was a really busy night, the restaurant was full, so we did expect a delay in food service but there wasnt one. The kitchen staff must work so hard. The atmosphere was lovely, relaxed and comfortable. It is decorated to a high standard the character of the place is wonderful. I would recommend The Devon Doorway to anyone who is looking for somewhere with amazing food and service and a bit different to the high street/chains of restaurants. We all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and will definitely be back.
