Wet Wet Weather, Bargain Break, what a Bargain, a returning emigre home to Cornwall for a short break. Sadly the weather was so disappointing, but a little gem at Washaway washed away the moans about the weather.

Just excellent. A few minor niggles, but nothing worth mentioning. Nothing is perfection after all.

Room Tip: GradeTwo listed, but with double glazing keeping out any traffic noise (quiet ish road anyway ) We s...

I booked the Trehellas on short notice for a business trip - was a really lucky find. I had a single room in an outbuilding (converted stable?) which was big enough, if only just, with a very comfortable bed. I got there late so ate at the hotel; there is no bar, which is a bit odd and a bit of a shame. There's a lounge where you can see the menu and have a drink, but it's not like a proper bar. The menu was a bit odd: not cheap, with starters mostly around the £7 mark and main courses from about £15 - £25, but there is a set meal of steak and chips followed by sticky toffee pud for £15; that's what I had, and the steak was cooked just right - nice and rare - with excellent chips. I didn't really want a proper restaurant meal - as I was on my own I'd have been happy with a bar meal or similar, but this is a small hotel and so the choice is always going to be a bit limited. Breakfast was good with a range of cooked options including smoked haddock and the traditional full English; I had bacon and a poached egg, the service was fast and the food good. Home made preserves on the table was a nice touch.
I would stay here again - it's a nice friendly hotel without being too informal. The best features are the quality of the food, and the gardens looked well worth a visit if it ever stopped raining (so far, when I've been in Cornwall, the weather has been torrential). The worst features are the room temperature (was a bit cold) and the fact that there's no bar / informal bar meal option.

Just home from my third stay here.
The rooms are maybe a little tired and the housekeeper could be a little more diligent (cobwebs in the window) but they're clean and comfy. Service is friendly and attentive.
The food though, is excellent. A varied menu with food cooked well and nicely presented. Breakfast is very good too.

Arrived at the hotel and greeted by a lovely receptionist who escorted us to our room, which was roomy, well decorated, and with a nice big bathroom. After settling in we went for a drink in the bar - only to find there wasn't one. They will serve drinks from a menu but really there is no atmosphere to sit there in the linge with no bar. Food in the restaurant was excellent.

Room Tip: Lovely hotel to go to if you like complete peace and quiet, but if you like to drink in a bar atmosp...

A superb little gem near Bodmin, a brief overnight stay but enough to make me want to stay here again. My bedroom in the main building was very comfortable, just watch the low beam if you are tall (ouch!). The restaurant menu was impressive with both expensive dishes plus a very good value steak meal, the steak was cooked perfectly and was nicely rounded with some good examples of Cornish real ale. The bed was very comfortable. Bathroom was very neat and tidy with plenty of hot water.

My girlfriend and I stayed here overnight on the 11th November 2012 and we had a good time. We didn't have dinner there as we had already made reservations at Nathan Outlawas restaurant in Rock and the reason we chose this hotel was how close it was to Rock.

The bed in the lostwitheil suite is massive and very comfortable and the bathroom is very spacious with a bathtub and a shower and plenty of room left over. The only let downs in the bathroom were the very weak 'power' shower, the quality of the fittings and the size of the bathub. For the size of the room they could have put in a very nice corner bath or a larger tub which would be nice for couples.

As I mentioned we didn't have dinner but we did have breakfast. The conservatory is a lovely setting for breakfast and the buffet spread was about right for the size of the hotel. The cooked option was very welcome and there was a good choice for all sizes of appetitites.

And what a treat it was. We stayed in the massive Courtroom Suite. It has a king bed up a couple of stairs within the room where the Judge used to preside. Very atmospheric. There is a lounge area with 2 sofas and 2 leather chairs. Tele, fireplace, huge, bright and cheery. The bathroom is also massive. Bath, toilet, bidet, seperate shower cubicle and another chair. And still loads of room left. I didn't like the cold shower curtain sticking to me during my shower, maybe a proper cubicle next time it's decorated would be nice. Tea/coffee making facilities. It really was a gorgeous room. The breakfasts were brilliant and our Anniversary meal was absolutely superb. They are clearly very popular so make sure you book. It's placed very well for visiting the local area. We spent the first day in Padstow. What a great find. Thank you.

Room Tip: Courtroom Suite is the largest.
