“Nice house with excellent tour”
Reviewed September 29, 2012

We visited Pencarrow House while staying just a few minutes down the road in Padstow. Viewing the house was by guided tour only, however as the tour guide Sue did such an excellent job this actually made the whole experience much better than our normal amble through old properties. She described all the interesting features and artefacts with a pleasantly informal yet knowledgeable manner.

Unfortunately when we had finished the tour the heavens opened so we were unable to few the gardens so we were forced to take shelter in the little coffee shop and suffer a few cornish cream teas which comprised of extremely light and fluffy scones and, of course, plenty of jam and cornish clotted cream.....oh the hardship!

“Beautiful Gardens”
Reviewed September 29, 2012

Visited Pencarrow House and Gardens in September 2012,did not go into the house as we had our dog with us.It was great for dog owners as dogs are welcome in all areas of the Garden. The walk through the woodland gardens was magical, and so peaceful. We sat by the lake on a wonderful sunny day and watched the dragonflies at play. Our Lhasa Apso dog loved his walk too and was given dog biscuits on his way out through the gift shop.Well worth a visit if you are in this part of the world.

“Hidden gem”
Reviewed September 21, 2012

We visited Pencarrow and it was a lovely trip. It is not one of the grander country houses, but is is cosy and welcoming and has lots of interesting art and objects to look at, both antique and modern. It is still a home and so you have to have a guided tour (which I dont normally like) but the lady who took us round was wonderful and we were welcome to sit on the seats and I even got to have a play on Albert Sullivan's piano (of Gilbert and Sullivan). Thoroughly enjoyed it. Lovely gardens to explore but not a horticultural wonder. Sweet little coffee shop, but thats about it. Nonetheless we enjoyed it!

A truly delightful house which projects a great feeling of the family who own it. The gardens are lovely and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit.

“Lovely woodland walks”
Reviewed September 16, 2012

On holiday recently we chanced upon Pencarrow as we were driving around. Impressed by the mile long drive through woods and parkland. Didn't visit the house as we were slightly too late for the guided tours. Modest but stylish formal gardens giving way to a lovely walk past lake and stream and through the woods. Very peaceful aspect. Topped off nicely with tea and cake in a seating area shared with peacocks.

I would recommend the gardens to anyone who enjoys a country walk but doesn't want to go too far off the beaten track.
