We got a great D, B&B deal of about £160 for the two of us, we were visiting the Eden Project and wanted somewhere special to stay. The Lugger is about half hour drive away. It is a small hotel but perfectly formed. The rooms are delightful and include a cafetiere and fresh coffee, a proper teapot and fresh milk was sent to your room on request (no nasty long life stuff!) Our evening meal was delicious, and the sound of the sea lapping below ensured a good night's sleep. Breakfast was lovely and it was so nice sitting looking out to sea while we ate it - it was so close we felt we could touch it... I discovered later in the day that I had left my bank card in the machine after checking out, so a quick phone call and it arrived in first class post at home the next day. We will definitely return.

This hotel relies a lot on its beautiful position and views. The waiters and waitresses were great and made a real effort. However the woman at reception was not the most helpful and it was due to a helpful waiter that we got to eat when we wanted. To be told as guests booked in for D,B&B that the restaurant was busy was not helpful. No reminder either if we wanted papers on the second morning.
A couple of dishes were luke warm and one rather mean in size ,and the continental breakfast lacked any bread .
Room was clean and fridge with milk a nice touch ,sadly bed was not the most comfortable, and wall obviously had a bit of damp.

“Thank you for comments, I have discussed them with my Head Chef, Head Receptionist and Maintenance Manager who are extremely concerned that you were disappointed with your certain aspects of your stay. We do apologize, but would like to point out that if your disappointment with dinner had been brought to our attention at the time we would have offered to replace your dishes as we would always hope that our guests are satisfied.
The management team has taken your comments most seriously and will be addressing the issues that you have highlighted with the rest of the team.”

From the moment we arrived the service was excellent. Russell the assistant manager is an asset to the hotel and was always ready to help us with anything. In fact all of the staff were fantastic.
The room was wonderful with glorious view out to sea. We would recommend room 201 to anybody!
The food was sublime. We can honestly say it was some of the best food we've ever had.
Portloe is a beautiful little fishing village. If your looking to escape the city and get away from it all then this is definitely the place to go.

We went out of season but can't imagine it being spoiled by tourists. A little bit of Cornish Heaven, hearing the waves break in its little cove just outside your bedroom window and the restaurant. The staff are very efficient and tend your every need with courtesy and humour. The food is terrific - we still felt full days after our return! We're almost reluctant to write this review in case we give away our secret. We loved our weekend there so much we have already booked and paid for our next stay in October.

I stayed at the Lugger with a friend for just one night in February. If I had known how lovely it was going to be then I wouldn't have arrived so late and would probably have stayed another night. The setting is absolutely idyllic and the level of service from arrival was outstanding. The room was beautiful and well equipped and a pleasure to stay in. We had the most amazing cream tea in the afternoon the scones were outstanding. As for the dinner in the evening, well it was faultless and absolutely fantastic. I didn't want it to end! We flew to Newquay from London Gatwick. It was only 30 minutes by car from the airport. The whole thing was effortless and really easy to do for a weekend break. I thoroughly recommend this hotel.

We planned to stay 3 nights at the Lugger - and just couldnt drag ourselves away - so we stayed on for an extra night! The place has a magical quality and its people just cant do enough for you. Food and service delightful. Reading some of the earlier reviews is staggering. We travel regularly and for us this establishment is a very rare find. We will certainly be back.
Thanks everyone for a wonderful stay - Peter and Heather.

I had the pleasure of staying at this establishment for 2 weeks while on business in Truro. The staff are lovely, always attentive and willing to help. A special mention goes to Russell and Richard working front of house, they were extremely helpful in general and especially when I arranged for my wife to join me on my second week. I can even remember their names 5 months later! The rooms are well suited to the environment and are cozy and romantic and the restaurant serves excellent food though it is a little pricey.

It seems the bad reviews on this site are from different management and as a result should be removed
